Sound Data Base Error

This is proabably relevant to alot of players who use the mods that do not touch the original Rome or BI files, but use there own seperate folders. I have just about every mod ever created and I only use ones that have there own seperate folders. Up untill now I have not had a problem installing any of them and playing them all from the same Rome Total War folder. I keep a back up folder for purposes of copying dead files and dead folders. EB is a fun game and I have always kept up to date with the latest patches and installs. With the new version available on Filefront 81.3 with available patches It has corupted my Rome-Bi, Folder. I have tried recopying bi files but still I getr the same results. "failed to open Sound Database", shortly after it reads Script error in Data/descr_sounds_ambientunits.txt 6142, column 85 crested heavy horse not found. If it is as simple as replacing The crested heavy horse file then where can I find the file?

I think that the problem has something to do with all the barbarium files as I run IFBD as well and 7.05 has also stopped working, so has 7.03

To add a bright side to this note: Eb is fun to play, can't wait for the next one.

Yes, it does...it also says that it is installed with it's own seperate folder and does not touch the original vanilla files. So what is it?, What section does it belong in then. Own folder or overinstall?, I am not an idiot and I can read, If I wanted to make a seperate folder I would have done it. I would think that you would want to create a program that is compatable with others. RTR,xgm,chivalry...ec can all be played from the same Rome Total War files. There are lots of players like me who don't see the need in using up 20gb to install a few games, that maybe the Eb team might be able to reference this bug.When there are other alternatives. My disk space is valuable to me. Given enough time I'll figure out what the problem is myself. The best part about modding is that your in constant learning about things that you don't know and teaching others what you do,This includes referencing and trying new things and stretching your boundaries and knowledge. There are alot of great programs here on this site that were created by people who wanted to do more......so here it is, if you havn't anything intelligent to say then don't say anything.

Not so. It says you should install in a separate RTW.

Note: step 1, 2 and 3 are optional, provided that you have a clean, that is unmodified copy of RTW, patched to 1.5. In other words: you have a version 1.5 of RTW that contains neither any traces of other mods, nor any modifications of your own. In which case step 4 refers to your clean RTW 1.5 build

Small question, does the installer use any Text Parsing to add or change file contents of the vanilla files, or does it overwrite them?

There is no parsing, and there is no change to vanilla files. Nearly all EB files are stored in the EB subdirectory. Those few files which are stored in the vanilla directory will not use any parsing to change them, they'll overwrite anything already there.

To clarify, I was answering his question whether files in the vanilla structure are parsed and modified from whatever they are at the moment. They are not, they are simply overwritten regardless of their current status.

If you wanted to make EB work correctly, you would have followed the installation guide and done so in a clean 1.5 RTW. There is very little else intelligent to say.

I'm sure you'll be happy to hear that the next release will be completely modfoldered (no vanilla spillage), thanks to the assistance of FATW's Dol Guldur.

There is no need to be rude.

EB overwrites only a small number of files; the loading bar and the vanilla cities. It will not mess with the sound database, and all other files placed in the vanilla folder have the EB_ tag before them so they do not overwrite the original files. We do recommend installing it over a clean install of RTW 1.5 as we deal with EB bugs, not bugs caused by the many and varied ways people can set their EB up (ie with one or more mods over the same RTW). So we recommend a clean install of RTW 1.5 because we cannot spend our time solving the problems of people with varied setups - we have a mod to make you know!

Finally, bovi is one the most intelligent people in the modding community for finding bugs and solving them. I should think that before making blanket statements about someone, you should know who they are first.

Our advice has always been to install over a clean RTW 1.5 and we have never supported having other mods on that same RTW, because we cannot control where they place there files and they may well turn up a conflict. The -mod build allows a player to still use the vanilla folder, but it is up to the discression of the individual whether they use other mods on the same RTW, and not the responsibility of the modding team to solve any problems resulting from doing so.
