Default SEVERAL ppls on ONE router

    Hello,
i am visiting my friends an we try to play VI with 3 ppls on one wireless online router.
We all can log in and can see each other in the lobby, but we cannot see our games.

    Greetings

You need to forward the ports of the hosting Computer so that it's visible.
Same things apply that you need to host when using a router.
But it could be problematic that the three of you have the same outside IP.

Default AW: SEVERAL ppls on ONE router

Thank You R'as for quick reply.

You are right, that is the problem, all 3 gamers have the same IP-address from the router.

Perhaps there is a program which adds a different IP to each client, like hamachi for LAN over internet.

I hope we can find a way.

I have found many new ppls here who wanna play this game and You know we always need more ppls for MTW/VI and the mods.

(I am in Munich... 800 km far from my home... visiting some clannies from LotRO who I have never seen personally before. That is a good situation to get many more ppls for VI. so it is very important to show them the game as long as I am here.

You're 4 people on the same LAN.
Why don't play a LAN game instead of trying the lobby?

May be too late, but maybe for next time.

For some reason I believe that this should work, but only one of you will be able to host. That one will have to have a static IP setup, the DMZ assignment for the router, and most likely have their firewall turned off also.

There is more info here: http://portforward.com/default.htm

    I will try.

Port forwarding tells the router to hook up a direct line for selected ports, to a single computer on a local area network. This allows that computer to have open communication from the outside world through those ports, as if it alone was directly connected to that outside world.

In order to host a game on GameSpy, you need to have a computer set up to have this ability.

(more later – have to go)

Now there is the possibility that GameSpy only looks at the CD ID, and not the ISP when dealing with MTW/VI. I believe that is true as I have know some players to have two machines going at the same time, presenting two individual players in games. I doubt very much that they would have two separate internet connections, so must be playing through a router.

The thing is, I think that they are using two different game CDs, on the two computers involved.

Putting all this together, someone has to host the game. Either one of the three computers or another player. Then with separate CDs (DVD also available I believe), you should be able to join the game together, through the same router.

Of course each CD would have to have it’s own GameSpy account, but that wouldn’t be any big deal

the problem is mtw and gamespy both want specific ports open,

i cannot forward the same port to multiple computers without data corruption between the different "players"

Only the host computer has router ports directed to it's self, to allow for that hosting to happen. The other computers in the game (on the same side of that router or not) are not the host, function as players only, and do not need ports (router ports) forwarded.

You must learn how to be a host first, before you consider anything more complicated.
