Custom Avatars and Smileys

I see Custom Avatars are possible, but what are the requirements for them and how do I get them uploaded and ready for use?

Also, can members make custom Smileys? I'm just curious on this one, I have yet to learn how to make them.

One off-topic question here... Where and when are nominations for the Orgah's rank of Senior Member? I read up on that in the FAQ today and I was curious about when it happened and if I had missed it.

The dimensions are 96*142 and filesize about 10 kb. If it roughly matches what the pool already has, I'll add. If it's something different, say a sportscar, users decide whether that should be part of the theme.

Smileys that match the style(s) we already have or a set in a new style that matches, may be added. I try to keep them of equal size.

But of course, I would shrink it down to the right size and put the right banner around it and all that.

Why not use it as URL avatar?

I'd say the normal avatars stay theme based and the URL one well, they're off by default anyway AFAIK.

The 50*74 avatars will remain TW themed.

There's a second URL-avatar system, supporting images of 96*142. Members wanted a theme for that too, but it has more style variation and is open to discussion.

Personally I do prefer the URL avatars. I find them to be much more personal than the samey looking TW portraits. I've tried a few of the TW portraits since I've been here and have never been happy with any of them. I suppose I dislike having a certain face representing my persona on these forums, and prefer not to use a human face as my avatar, but maybe a symbol instead - or even an item or scene. This is the main limitation of the standard TW portraits.



I do think however that they should remain TW oriented and not be totally unregulated.
