Question Remedies for a scratched disc

Well, I foudn out that a lot of files on my MTW 2 disc were ruined, maybe becuase of the huge scratch I have on my disc, so when I reinstalled it said I had some errors on the file. I went on google looked for remedies, one guy suggested toothpaste and I followed his instructions and it worked like a charm, but only on the small scratches. It was pretty awsome how toothpaste removed all the tiny scratches and buffed up the disc. But still the disc is corrupted and it wasn't able to remove the bigger scratch.

Does anyone know any remidies for huge scratches on discs?

I bought something at a CD shop once that fixes scratches. Check around there.

Small scratches on the plastic don't do much, I'm not sure you can do much about bigger ones though. But IIRC, it's scrathes on the top, to the nickel coating that actually do the most damage.

Take it to your video store and ask for it to be buffed.

It may cost you a few dollars, but it will get rid of all scratches possible.

What pever said isn't a bad idea, but be careful, sometimes those guys can cause more damage to your discs than they do fix them.

If you're prone to scratching your CDs/DVDs, then consider getting something like one of these things. I had one but someone borrowed it and never gave it back (and I forgot who it was ), but I tend to take good care of my discs. If you have some blanks and want to experiment, car polish and a soft, non-linting cloth will also work well in pinch. I don't recommend trying it first on your $50 game cds though, burn some random crap on to some blank cds, nick them up a bit until it won't read, then try to polish/shine them up. After awhile you'll get a good feel for what you can fix and what you can't.

    Just some food for thought.
