With so many units in the game, which units do you take to battle? What ratio of cavalry to archers to spearmen do you have? Do you use lots of low-tech or a few high-tech units?

i use a base of spearmen, at least 4, with 4-6 feudal/chivalic men at arms, plus a couple of horse units. ive barely used ranged units (same as stw) and base my attacks on flanking while holding with spearmen.

    simple but effective.

not too far into the game though, so i cant afford ultra-high units.

Early in the campaign (low tech): I use whatever I currently have or able to train. Smaller army too.

Middle of the campagin (med tech):
    - Defense: 4 feudal sergeants, 2-3 man-at-arm, 2 anti-amour (urban militia), 6 missiles and the rest are cavalry and commander. Reserve: mainly feudal knight and men-at-arm.
    - Offense: 4 feudal sergeants, 4 man-at-arm, 2 (or 4) anti-amour (urban militia), 2 fast missiles and cavalry + commander. Reserve: also feudal knight and men-at-arm.

Later in the campaign (high tech):
    - Defense: commander, 4 Swiss armoured pikemen, 2 chilvaric men-at-arm and the rest are missiles and cannons. Reserve: a full reserve army consist of anti-armour, chilvaric and feudal knight, men-at-arm and more Swiss armoured pikemen.
    - Offense: commander, 4 Swiss armoured pikemen, 4 chilvaric men-at-arm and the rest are cannons. Reserve: selected reserve consist of anti-armour, chilvaric and feudal knight, men-at-arm to replace the number cannon crews that would be withdrawn from battle field.

Deployment: since AI has the habit of deploying their siege engines, cannons far back behind the main troops, I would deploy:
    - Defense: far back of the zone for fast reinforcement. Also, AI troops would be a little tired by the time they reach my defensive line. Their reinforcement would take some time to reach my defensive line giving my troops time to catch their breath.
    - Offense: just a little behind the middle of the zone so I can stay out of AI siege engines (and may be cannons) range but their troops are within my range.
