    Default units that feel "redundant"

Even with kingdoms and addition of new units, I seem to find quite a few units that carries the "redundant" banner.

Khassaki and royal mamluks look the same, have same stats, and really seem to bear no difference in tech tree, so what is the point of khassakis as a new unit? Sure khassaki has cairo requirement, but lets face it: thats not enough difference to call something "new", to be honest.

If its the difference between pavise crossbowmen and pavise crossbowmen militia, then I would understand but whats up with khassaki and royal mamluks? Might as well called the khassaki "cairo mamluks" and nothing will seem different other than the icon on the bottom.

At least cataphracts and archontopulai have slightly different stats, whats the deal with khassaki and royal mamluks, seriously.

Im wondering whether the Khassaki have that myserious "high lethality factor other than stats" that differentiate them at ALL, or just a lazy copy-n-paste job from CA.

maybe they have higher stamina, new animations, more mass, better morale perhaps!

There are a bunch of attributes you don't see, maybe some of the units have impoved values in these?

Khassaki start with a higher armour value and royal mamluks need to be upgraded.
You can train and retrain them faster since the highest barracks offer 6 Khassaki units and only 4 royal mamluk units.
royal mamluks use maces if I'm not mistaken while khassaki use swords, maces are armour piercing, swords are not.

That's what I can come up with without looking deeper into their stats and IIRC khassaki have one more attack in their unit descrition card.

Well militia units are weaker than their castle counterparts, so pasvise crossbow militia are inferior to pasvise crossbowmen. Likewise, billmen are stronger than billl militia and pike militia lose to pikemen. This holds unless the faction is Venice or Milan. If you want a better one, its cos units in castles are have better training while those in cities are only hired to guard the city, a defensive role.
