    No I think this is just a common thing that happens with the game that has nothing to do with alpha layers and what not. The Roman officers often lose their weapons after a while. I can't remember barbarian officers losing theirs' but definitely the Roman and possibly Carthaginian style ones do. I don't know if anyone found a solution to the problem but it effects vanilla RTW as well as some mods.

    You can check the first by examining the texture file for the unit and making sure the secondary weapon isn't masked by the alpha layer. For the second you'll need to load the CAS model into 3dsmax and make sure there is a secondary weapon present.

    And that the secondary weapon is actually called "secondary weapon" in 3dsmax

    Yeah, I just cloned the primary weapon and renamed it and the problem went away. I think the reason why this happens for some of the other officer/general units is because they don't have a secondary weapon in the model file.
