Thread: Due east

    Default Due east

one thing i always liked about EB was the inclusion of more factions, giving it a more world-wide feel. but one of the things im here to rant on about (and hopefully get changed) is eastern europe. there is nooo one there!
granted, the getai have the balkans, the sweboz have central europe and the sauromatae have the eastern steppes, but theres no competition for the east of europe! surely there was a large slavic, germanic or some other kind of tribe that dominated the east? one thing i want to know is why there isnt a (or maybe even two) factions in the east of europe, since i reckon it would give the battle for european conquest a bit more depth. because, quite honestly, once youve taken the aeudi, arverni and sweboz there arent really that many barbarians left to feel elitist about!
could one of the EB members enlighten me on this lack of polskis? and if possible, design another faction worth a try innit?
    cheers

Essentially there were no large or politically sophisticated tribal groups in the baltic area at our start point. Or, to put it more correctly, we know of no group in that position. Of course late on some very powerful groups spring up, but this is much much later. There are some factions over there that are being considered for EB2, but that discussion belongs and is happening in the EB2 forums.

As it is there are no free faction slots left for EB1 on RTW so there won't be any factions in that area anytime soon.

I think everyone can agree another faction to help block the Sweboz and just generally make the area more interesting would be nice, however this subject has already been discussed in many other threads and all the current faction slots are taken. So if you want to see another faction in an existing faction will have to go, a tough decision eh? Personally I think the Casse could be removed without being missed too much (although I'm English so I shouldn't really be so un-patriotic ) but y'know, there are good arguments from all sides and its been discussed so much by now that I doubt the EB team will be bothering with it now if they haven't already (AFAIK they have already confirmed this somewhere IIRC).

    Still, theres always EB2....

    Cheers

EDIT Foot got in before me, damn sharp he is :(
Still there you go, no more eastern Europeans for EB1!

ah well ill just hav 2 be patient. as for getting rid of the casse (i think ive mentioned this before) but i think another tribe should be put in britain, making a bit of a power struggle there, since AFAIK the britons didnt usually unite as a single people, although boudicca is an obvious example of unification.
and just so i know, when IS EB2 due out? im guessing a long long long time from now, but how long should i be waiting? a month? a year? a DECADE?! ah i hate guessing games, someone end my misery!

I totally agree with that. IMO in this region can be only Eleutheroi provinces. Tribes from there are disperse, ( i think it's a good word :P ) no archeology proof for any union and alliance. New regional units would be nice but are no sources of what kind of warriors may be there. I only know how they hunt but.... :/
We can say there are some Scythian (in east) Celtic German and Baltic influences. But no strong faction.

Conclusively... no more faction in this region.

If the Getai actually expanded for once in their lives, we wouldn't be complaining about this...

    @long lost ceasar...

I don't even think they've really started EB2 yet, aside from some discussions. I would think it will be at least a year before we have a playable beta, but who knows.

Perhaps, merging some of the central-northern provinces together could solve the problem?

I believe that a briton tribe was better choice.

I've definitely seen better expansion from Getai in the last few games I've played with the newest internal build. Dunno how it turns out in the end, but by 265 they almost always have one or sometimes even two new provinces under their control due to expansion.

@ Diadoch: yeah, another Briton tribe is DEFINITELY something i feel needs to be worked on, as for an eastern tribe? thats my preference, but it seems no dice, since everyone here says there was no major power back then. and i think everyone here will agree with this: if it aint historical, it aint playable.

@ MiniMe: personally i think merging provinces wouldnt help. its like putting a poison plaster on a cut (oh yes, what a metaphor!) i just feel that another tribe in the east would give europe a much more "clustered" feel. considering how the sweboz can expand unchallenged it would also make things much more total war-like, but thats just the personal beliefs of a lunatic. unless you agree, in which case its the rantings of a select number of lunatics

if only the classical writers of the ancient world had bothered to learn about the actual Proto-Slavs and Proto-Balts and Bolgars, Proto-Turks of Eastern Europe, we could actually know something rather than guessing and leaving it at "they spontaneously generated in the Dark Ages".

Another problem is that even if they existed they were not organized enough to be a faction, although that is also a reason for their veiled existence, because the open-natured membership of the Goths and Huns meant that if you lived similar and served them, you were them. so the dominant Steppe peoples such as the Antes and Avars for a long time made their identity seemingly unimportant.

the West Slavs especially seem to exist very early but are mixed up by everybody as Vandals or just cannot be "proven" to be the Lugi or Wends... yet all of a sudden in the Dark Ages, you have Sorbs, Obodrites, Pomeranians all very deep into Central Europe... it's interesting that Bohemia also then becomes mixed even more than it was to begin with that places is really an awesome hub.

Great Moravia was such an interesting and significant early Eastern European culture / civilization though, it's too bad we have nothing comparable in an earlier timeline.
