It happened to me also couple of times. I think that it depends on the difficulty set of your campaign. I always play on very hard campaing difficulty (medium - battles) , so AI tries more dirty tricks, assasinations included.
I've seen it....although it is rare.

The amount the AI manages to assassinate your generals is relatively low, but I think its about at the correct amount. I've been shocked several times to see one of my up and coming generals dead. But I've always rather liked that it throws a curve ball at you ever so often.
Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.

The AI uses assasins a lot in my campaigns, but seems to be rather unsucessful most of the time. In one Aedui campaign though, the romans murdered my faction leader. Boy, I was pissed...Actually when I try to kill a family member, especially a faction leader or heir, it says I have a 1% chance. I really wonder how they did that. Ok, he had a lot of traits that said he was an old drunkard, perhaps that helped.

I've managed to kill enemy family members with 1% chance rate, of course, im sure I had luck pouring out my ass that day...![]()
