Thread: Timescale question.

    Default Timescale question.

    Hey lads, first post here.

I was wondering if, I change the timescale to, say, 0.5/1.0 (less than 2.0 in any case) will all the historical events (Black death, Gunpowder, Americas) come at the right date? I've heard somewhere that they come after a certain number of turns, and at the right date on the default timescale; meaning that setting the timescale to 1.0 would have Americas discovered at 1250-ish? I hope I phrased it all right.

    Short answer: no.
The events are tied to the date, i.e. the year, not to the amount of turns. Setting the timescale to 1.0 simply means you double the amount of turns available until game-end, and that means you need twice as many turns to get to a specific year (or event) than on vanilla setting.
I usually also play at the 1.0 setting, as it gives the AI more time to develop and upgrade.

Is America ever discovered on 0.5 timescale? because surely by the time the year is right then the turn limit will be long gone.

By changing the timescale, the turn limit will also be changed accordingly, so on 0.5 you will have four times as many turns to play until the limit is reached and the game will end as under vanilla settings.

Yeah, noticed that. 950 turns to achieve victory conditions

    Thanks.

As a piece of advice, unless you are a serious turtler that takes forever to expand, you do not need that many turns. Odds are that you will expand to victory conditions before 100th turn and then have to wait forever for the events.

It is very feasible to beat grand campaign on normal turn settings, with a blitzing strat, I have beaten it under 40 turns even

Changing the Turn Time increment to say 0.5 actually changes the whole nature of the game. But, If like Xdeathfire you still stick with your blitzing strategy then really its a waste of effort as you will just win the game in 40 turns and changing the timesclae will be an irrelevance.

But, usually people change the timescale because they want to take their time and indulge in a bit of proper empire building and development. With the timescales changed the pace of the game becomes much more leisurely and you actually get the chance to use all the units. Likewise the AI gets a chance to develop its cities to their maximum potential and you get to see fully trained pre-gunpowder armies meet on the battlefield.
