    Question What is unlocked?

    Hello all!

First of all, I am a newbie both at the game of Medieval II, and here at the forums. So, therefore I'll start with a newbie-question: I've heard that you can unlock new nations to play when you complete a grand campaign. What is being unlocked when I finish the short campaign as England (that's my game at the moment)?

I'd also like to know what is being unlocked for each of the campaigns for the five initial nations. :)

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the realm of Total War :D

Completing the initial objectives with ANY of the first five factions will unlock all the other factions.

When you complete the campaign 12 factions should be unlocked. You'll then be able to play any faction other than the Timurids, the Atzecs(sp?), the Mongols, the Papacy and the rebels.

know that some simple editing can unlock the factions without finishing the campaign...
King Baldwin the Tyrant, King of Jerusalem, Warden of the Holy Sepulchre, Slayer of Sultans in the Crusades Hotseat (new write-up here and previous write-up here)
Methodios Tagaris, Caesar and Rebelin LotR

I'm not entirely sure, but i think if you defeat a nation during the grand campaign, that even if you fail the objective you can play as the defeated ones. Anyone able to confirm?

As soon as you destroy an enemy faction (or possibly just outlast them) you can play as them, without needing to complete a campaign.

Every faction guide (besides the 5 starting factions) in the Newbie Forum has details on how to unlock all factions without doing a campaign. You just need to copy and paste a few lines in a text file. BTW all the unlockable factions are Scotland, Denmark, Portugal, Moors, Turks, Egypt, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Genoa, Sicily, Byzantium.

However, since you are new to the game, I would recommend playing a short campaign with one of the 5 starting factions since they are generally easier to play as, and you will get a good feel for the game before you try something harder. If you don't want to mess around with editing files, it is easy to finish a short campaign as the HRE in less than 20 turns (the record for a LONG campaign as HRE is 18 turns I believe), as HRE, you have access to many rebel provinces to conquer without getting into actual wars with other nations.

If you want details on how to beat a campaign or anything else, just ask!

Don't feel that you must finish one of the 5 starting campaigns. Editing is really simple and takes like 5 minutes
