Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans.
As with all things delay's with EB 1.0's release date are to be expected, but fear not it is coming soon. "How soon?" I hear you cry. "Sooner than a kettle boiled upon Everest's peak, plus or minus a few days." is how I reply. Make of that what you will.
Thanks goes to Kampfkrebs for the great teaser trailer. To Stefan25, alin, blank, The samnite, Spartan_Warrior, Webbird, Aymar de Bois Mauri, Forgus for their work on the units previewed here, and to all members who helped research the units, their names and descriptions.
Teaser Trailer: War or Peace?
Kampfkrebs has been working diligently on a new line of videos for faction intros. We wanted to show off his talent as soon as possible. So here is the fifth of a number of teaser trailers he has made for us.
You can watch on Youtube (though be paitent as it is still uploading), or you can download a high quality version from our ftp.
The Units of the Sweboz:
Jugunthiz (Germanic Skirmishers)
The Jugunthiz ("Youth") is a skirmisher unit made up of young and inexperienced warriors, freemen of the lowest rank, lightly armed troops who should break up and harass enemy formations before the main battle lines meet, acting as a screen for heavier and more valuable troops.
Skutjanz (Germanic Archers)
Skutjanz ("Shooters") are untrained Germanic warriors, hunters and freemen of the lowest rank, used to harass and break up enemy formations so other more experienced and valuable melee warriors can then get in amongst their thinned ranks and finish them.
Gaizōz Frijē (Germanic Levy Spearmen)
Gaizōz Frijē ("One's own Spears") are Germanic "free" men of the lowest rank, farmers and hunters accustomed to persistent raids and ritual warfare, but their experiences in constant tribal clashes make them more effective than militia mustered by other peoples.
Dugunthiz (Germanic Spearmen)
The Dugunthiz are a unit of experienced and “capable” spearmen, steeled by years of constant warfare. They are well known for throwing their spears before charging in to hand-to-hand combat.
Druhtiz Skandzisku (Scandinavian Spearmen)
The Druhtiz Skandziksu ("Scandinavian Warband") are warriors from the North, fierce and hardy, who fight well and perform better than other spearmen in a charge, but are often difficult to control.
Dugunthiz Hattisku (Chatti Spearmen)
The Dugunthiz Hattisku ("Chatti Trusted") is a unit of experienced and “capable” spearmen, steeled by years of constant warfare. They are well known for throwing their spears before charging in to hand-to-hand combat and holding a line fast with steady morale.
Druhtiz Habukisku (Chauci Spearmen)
The Druhtiz Habukisku ("Chauci Warband") is a unit of Chauci warriors, able to perform better than other spearmen defensively, because of their unique experiences defending their native land.
Speutagardaz (Germanic Pikemen)
The Speutagardaz ("Pike-fence") is a unit of very disciplined warriors fighting in a very dense formation. They use the Germanic pike (speutan) - a deadly and intimidating weapon with a very long spearhead.
Jugunthiz Hattisku (Chatti Club Infantry)
The Jugunthiz Hattisku ("Chatti Youth") is a unit of young and wild warriors from the Hattōz tribe, eager to prove their battle oaths through man-slaughter in order to earn experience and status and fight beside their betters. They will be most effective when deployed against armored units.
Slaganz (Germanic Club Infantry)
Slaganz ("Strikers") are fierce and aggressive warriors, though lacking in discipline like most Germanic warriors because their sense of honor and bravery makes them all too eager to get into the fray. They are most effective when deployed against armored units.
Skaduganganz (Germanic Naked Spearmen)
Skaduganganz ("Night-Walkers") daub their bodies and shields with pitch and black dye, giving them a frightening and otherworldly appearance. Their fierce nature combined with their shocking appearance, wild-eyed and screaming, as they charge seemingly ‘out of nowhere’ is seriously disturbing to their foes.
Druhtiz Bastarnisku (Bastarnae Shock Infantry)
The Druhtiz Bastarnisku ("Bastarnae Warband") is made up of resolute warriors, well aware of their role on the battlefield as shock troops.
Herunautōz (Germanic Swordsmen)
The Herunautōz ("Sword-possessors") are a unit of fierce and valiant warriors who are privileged, successful, or lucky enough to carry rare weapons among Germanic tribes: swords. They fight in dense formation, often with their own kinsmen at their side.
Druhtiz Herusku (Cherusci Swordsmen)
The Druhtiz Herusku is a warband composed of sword-possessing warriors from the Cherusci tribe. They have adapted to the styles of warfare of their neighbors and can form a denser shieldwall than other tribes, which gives them a decisive defensive advantage.
Thegnōz Drugulē (Germanic Heavy Infantry)
Thegnōz Drugulē ("Mercenary Thanes"), often called herthaganautōz ("hearth-companions") by their lord, are the Germanic tribes' best warriors. They are wealthy, powerful men, fiercely loyal to their lord and equipped with the best weapons and armor.
Herthaganautōz (Germanic Bodyguard Infantry)
Herthaganautōz, often called thegnōz ("thanes") in a general sense, are the Germanic tribes' best warriors. They are wealthy, powerful men, fiercely loyal to their lord and equipped with the best weapons and armor.
Ridanz (Germanic Light Cavalry)
Ridanz ("Riders") are excellent light cavalry, useful as scouts, as well as at harassing enemy formations before the main battle lines with their throwing spears.
Marhathegnōz (Germanic Heavy Cavalry)
Marhathegnoz ("Warhorse-thanes") are mounted professional warriors from Germanic tribes who possess the best arms and armor available, flocking to their war-leader’s banner because of his honor and success in battle.
And to lead the armies of the Sweboz to unite the tribe, the Lesser General and the Family Member:
