    Default Screen-burn on LCD

Through my excessive browsing of the internet (i'm unemployed and have 2 months in which to do nothing so subsequently spend 8 hours a day browsing the far reaches of the internet) i've managed to burn the image of my web browser faintly into the top left corner of my screen. It's most visible on blue backgrounds. According to a number of websites, the best thing to do is leave the computer showing a completely white background - some sites say 15 minutes up to an hour should do the trick, while others say it should equal the amount of time spent burning the image, in my case over half a year!

Is there any truth to this? I read the science behind it, it seems pretty plausible. And if it is true, just how long will it take to fix itself if left on a white background?

    About.com never lies

Run the screen with a single solid color or bright white for an extended period of time. This will cause all of the crystals to be reset at a single color setting and should erase and previous image persistence.
But just how long is 'an extended period of time'?

I'd say run a screensaver that could cause epilepsy in an elephant for maybe 15 min a day, followed by a stark white screen for 15 min, and always turn off your LCD when you aren't using it. See if that helps in a few days or weeks.

Honestly I'm surprised, I was under the impression that LCDs were immune to burn-in, would seem I am wrong here. As to what I recommended above, based on what I've read so far, seems like a good plan. /shrug It can't hurt at least, just don't have a seizure.

Same here, never noticed anything like that either, but then I turn the screen off together with the rest of the PC during the night or when I'm away for more than a few minutes.

LCD's are meant to be immune, but then they don't take into account people like me who are on it for most of the day.

Anyway, the white screen appears to be working. Yesterday i could make out details on the burn such as buttons and stuff. Today i can only faintly see the address bar and a tiny bit of browser.

    Much better!
