Crashes after showing EB map

I am using the Sega Gold version. I did a fresh install, downloaded and installed the 1.5 patch, then installed EB. The game loads, shows the old activision intro, and then I hear the error sound and it hangs up while filling the bar on the EB map screen. I have to reset my computer, as it alt tabbing does not return me to desktop, so I cannot see what the error message says.

I am having a similiar problem where it shows old vanilla intro video and I get to the EB start campaign screen and click on a faction to start a campaign and nothing happens. I hit escape once or twice and it goes back to desktop. No error messages just not working.
