Default Bribed governor killed in invisible battle?

I bribed a general in a town and next round he's killed in a battle I never saw? Is that normal?
I think I built some sort of regional governance building before he was killed- was it my mistake and how can I avoid this?

As well the in-game unit cards seemed pretty unchanged from 0.81
so, where will these changes be visible? In battle?

PS: The Trading cards are pretty awesome, and JRMC's building trees are very helpful too. The only thing I don't see are the results gained from a specific building..say if I build such and such a temple, what would the benefits be?

    Thanks for helping!

Bribed guys often die. RTW bug.
Unit UI is unchanged when the unit is unchanged. Most units are unchanged. The new units, and the revamped ones, have changed UI.
