The idea is that in the early and middle 3rd Century there still would have been a lot of older equipement around; especially armour was passed from generation to generation and sometimes was a century or more in use. Thus the Roman Legions of that periode would have looked much less uniform, with soldiers from different cities appearing in their traditional 'outfit' and sometimes sligthly different equipement.Originally Posted by Foot
