Thread: Cheating

  1. #1

    Default Cheating

I was wondering if you guys think its cheating to use the "add_money" code in console to help when money gets low? Since the AI gets lots of money when they fall into negatives and they have tons of money still even if they have a full stack and only ONE city.

i don't see the point in making a game easy, it just makes all my effort and time wasted. i could easily go into the script and give my self a million mnai a turn but that would be pointless, i would never have to make decisions. do i make a road or a temple? who cares, it doesnt even matter, i have the funds for anything.

it seems i think the same as people cheating and changing the reforms. why would i want to lose all the units in the middle? i play eb for the reforms and for the immense amount of unit(among many others things) and i want to discover all the features. also, i play for historical accuracy so why would i want to play unhistorical, especially in a game that just barely runs on my computer.

but thats just me. i have little care on how others play this amazing mod. it doesn't affect me the least bit, but when i see all these threads on easy money and skipping reforms, i wonder why i have no intentional on doing that, while others do.

and i also have no idea why i told everyone this. what a useless post. haha

I give money cheats and use Auto_win when I'm in debt and have no way out and when theres a random rebel army not even worth messing with respectively.

it can be useful to check what certain buildings will give you when completed. eg in the last build, playing as the haysadan there was no point in building elite level barracks in many cities in the middle east as you would only ever be able to build one levy spearmen at most. if i had spent my own money to test thyis out i would have been very annoyed.

I cheat so i can enjoy every part of the game from the camalian to fighting as Epiros for my life
20 turn campaigns are not fun winning or losing. Belive it or not I like losing too, and i learned that from this game which is trulyt awesome in eveyway

I use the auto_win cheat on rebel armies, they are pointless and annoying so i just send a slinger or something and autowin it.

set your descr_strat.txt file in the imperial campaign folder to 99999999999999999 value for brigands/pirates and you'll never have any more spawns, besides the rebels that are on the map at the start of the game. for some reason you still get heaps of pirates in the britain/germania region though.

i will cheat with money if i feel that things are unrealistic. like for example, when playing as the suaromatae, i expanded from 3 territories to about 10 using my starting armies, yet i still was losing money each turn (and was 90k in debt). i had no field army at all, they were just garrisoning the towns to keep order. it just seemed really stupid.

oh and i know not having rebels is unrealistic in itself, but it just so annoying to get them so often even if i set taxes to low in every city and do everything i can to improve the lives of my people. i just keep some small armies in each region to make up for the money i'd otherwise save from not having to fight them.

I usually add money to like a loan. After bringing myself back into the black, I build stuff with it, and deduct the exact same amount again. So I'm sort of mortagaging my present for the future. Debts get bigger though. As a result on my spending on mining centres for the Hayasdan, I was 160k in debt and have been crawling slowly back up to 120k in debt. I was stuck at 130k for a long while because I needed to keep taking small loans to build or replenish troops.

But yeah. I don't know if that's a cheat, but I DO know I would've been ground under by the AS 10 years ago if I hadn't added the money to build me an army worthy of my name.

Hey pez, I thought I was the only one who took out loans on EB. I'll do that too. When I'm in the negative, I'll sometimes use 'add_money 40000' to get me in the green, then build some stuff and use 'add_money -40000'. I'll only do it for certain things, though. Such as retraining depleted units and building governments, also occationally building a market or port to help get me out of debt. I won't build units, mines, or infrastructure buildings wit it, though. And I'll never take out a loan more then $40,000. On my last campaign, I removed an additional $20,000 once I had money to represent interest.

Shouldn't you also deduct interest on your loan, and impose a time-limit on repaying it? For example, take out 10,000 as a loan, with a self-imposed interest rate of 10% compounded quarterly, and you have to pay it back within 10-20 (or whatever) years. If time runs out, you pay it back anyway and deal with being in debt again.

Just a thought, since taking out a loan and paying back with no increase and no time limit isn't really... well, anything. It's just giving yourself money, and paying it back when you feel like it and don't have to worry about money anymore anyway.

    Cheers.

    Wink Re: Cheating

You know, I new that those posts about 'How everything is expensive' wont touch a fly...

So, here am I, who had to destroy ACROPOLIS to get 20000 for my Makedon campaign in Asia Minor and you people who cheat because (maybe ) you can not win a decent battle on VH or you just feel like 'there is no point' in fighting small rebel groups,

And some of you (or others that cheat) are the first to say: 'NO ! No unit costs revisions in EB are needed' -- Why? The point is not to cheat at all,
And let me just say that even if you cheat in 'rebel' battles you have a hell of a better start for everything (not to say if you 'add_money' or 'take a credit')
    - that is not in RTW spirit !

But, no matter, just have fun !

I completly agree, a game is a chalange, that's what makes it fun.

also, i play for historical accuracy so why would i want to play unhistorical, especially in a game that just barely runs on my computer.
So if your comuter was better you would be more likely to cheat?

No, your opinion counts, thats the whole point of these boards, to tell people of your opinion.

@Pez and MAA, I have considered loans at various times but never done it because I feel that I would have to do interest, and that is to compliaced for me to be bothered keeping track of, especaily when just clinging to existence, which is when I would want a loan.

Possibly something could be acheived by way of a script, eg if you open up the economic breakdown window and press the ? then press show me how on the advisor, triggers a script to give you 10k, then takes away 11k in 10 turns or something. Wouldn't be perfect though as I can't think of anyway to have it continuing if you have to load the game. I think that it should be considederd for eb2 though, with m2tw's continuous scripts.

I always reset money to zero when playing the Sweboz, Pontos or Armenia after conquering the homelands around. Waiting until the treasury has recovered from -40,000 is no real fun (it's no challange either, because either you are left alone and everything is fine, or you are attacked by AS and the game is over).

This is rediculous. No one at all should use these cheats, unless ofcourse met with unreasonable circumstances in some of the above mentioned. But for those just looking for some extra bucks, its just wrong. Why cant you just play like men? I always play Romans and in my new 1.0 campaign Rome had a bit of a great depression but I stuck through it. I didnt go into the negatives however because of my brilliant economic srategy(which really helps to have). I could only field one whole legion and wiped Epiros off the map with it.
And after that it was all up hill from there.

So you see, there is no reason for cheats. Just focus on economic structures and rough out the hard times. Oh yeah and dont forget to use those diplomats to keep the peace in your times of military weakness. If I hadnt used my diplomat correctly one Gallic army could have taken the entire Italian peninsula while my army was campaigning in Greece, and that would have sucked.

I thought about this, but it seems unfair to the other factions. Normally, I'll be spending a long time waiting for my debt to recover--time that they have to build their strength and expand. Suddenly offsetting that debt takes away the time the AI has to increase its power. Yeah, it's boring to sit there and end turn after turn, but I think of it as being that I'm supposed to be X many years behind the other factions; Rome is supposed to be strong long before, say, the Casse or Sweboz are, so it's only fair to give them the time to get there.

    Cheers.

I do not think you can consider it cheating, really. You play your own game; according to your own rules -- and if a dose of extra money; or a magically beforhand assured victory gives you the boost you need to enjoy your campaign more: all the better.

i agree with Tellos Athenaios: while i dont use the auto_win cheat much (only for sea battles where an entire army is at stake)
i do sometimes use the add_money cheat. i restrict myself to 1 time per year. works out pretty well for me. i have to watch finances, but i can still make some decent units, but not many.
i also sometimes use the process_cq cheat to make building times more realistic. over 3 years to build a barracks? ridiculous! so i make it 1.5 years instead.
but i always do the toggle_fow
its just s/t i need to have.

Rome is the easiest faction in the game. There is no need to cheat.

Secondly, you wouldent have lost Italy even if the Gauls attacked you. The AI is not capable of taking advantage of weaknesses like that. You would of had more than eneough time to move your army back if they did attack, and the Greeks would not have capitalised on you withdrawing since they are not capable of sending armies over on ships to attack.

Try playing as Saka, Pontus, Hayasdan or Baktria on VH campaign, the game is completely different.

The whole point is NOT. TO. CHEAT!
And I will say how do I now that for sure..ok?

--I mod my game (for years), and I have my mods and only reason they are not on the web is because I did not have good web connection until a year ago--

In vanilla and in my mods I had that prob, I consantly needed money -- well, not whit all factions, but, some... And I was in position to add_money or OLIPHAUNT every once and a while.. And when I added tradable goods values for 10 times (in sm_resource)-- everyone had money and very nice balance. So, that realy didnt change anything, I edited descr_txt scripts so that diplomats can be recruited only in large cities -- so that fixed the prob of bribes -- and I added conctruction times for over 5-10 times that variates from structure to structure...And even that was fixed by upgrading capitols of factions to some very nice units available at the start (and that was historicly acurate!)!

Tho whole point is that IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN ARMY THAT WILL NOT BANKRUPT YOU YOU WILL NEED NO CHEATS and the AI has this to (I mean -- If you make units 3 times cheper and 5 times less expensive to maintaine)

So I WILL MOD THESE SCRIPTS AND POST THEM (ofcourse, I will ask the fans and the community for some preferences before I do that)

    be well
