    Default What to do?

Things were going out just great in my lates game, but now the game has "capped" my treasury at 3055 florins. I make money if I spend them on cheaper buildings, but I can't invest in anything more expensive as I've been told I can't afford it (even though my turn update says I have made money).

    What to do?

Disband some armies, train merchants, build economic buildings, convert castles to cities, save up for larger buildings.

    Hello there,

Daveyboy has given you the vitals of what to do. If you I understand correctly, you are late in the game & have a few good provinces?

Well, you really need to think about your economy more carefully & balance the books'. Take a look at the finance screen. In addition to what Daveyboy said, check if you have any very expensive units in there - or any you disband - it's tough if it's frontline but then money talks & the world is full of politicians cutting back !!!

Personally, I can't stand the very high price units sitting there in their tents, I think the French lancers or gendarmes are the worst (the one that costs over 300 a year)

Seriously look at how many castles you need, my advice is don't be afraid to change to a city even if it means losing afew buildings. Long-term, you will make a lot more money.

Your armies may well be too large, look out for the free upkeep & really think through how you want to defend your empire - you can't have fully armed stacks everywhere. Sometimes cheap & bulk are best, don't waste the elite if the dross will do.

I also find that some people have a tendency to get the best units as soon as they are available - my advice is to balance your army - noone can have all elite units. If you have a very experienced professional stack, be prepared to move it around from front to front - by ship is best.

Lastly, keep reviewing what's going on. You can't just leave it to luck.

I hope this is helpful, there are a lot of finance experts around on the forum & it is one of the best parts of the game - balancing your books can be like an economics lesson!!

It might be worth going through those settlements and castles which are not in danger of attack and which no longer need so many military buildings, eg you might want to knock down all your ballista, catapult type building capability if you have gunpowder units.

Also anything that gives armour upgrades, and doubtless people can think of others.

Use the cash to build economic buildings or front-line units to go grab more territory.

    BUUUUUUGGG

By the sounds of it, if the other advice doesnt work, then looks like you are screwed for that save game.

That's what I thought too. That this had to be a bug. By the looks of the other answers, it seems either a) that my english is very bad, or b) that I just didn't make myself clear enough.

At this point, I had a healthy economy, making between 2000 and 3000 florins a day. It was rather late in the game, so I noticed the bug quite fast due to the fact that many city-upgrades costed more than 3055 florins at that point.

Oh well... I just have to start over again then...

    Tehehehe.!

You know some people get a real buzz out of fighting the big battles, using the elite units - the excellent 'war' part of the game.

I get a buzz from the disbanding of expensive units, cutting costs & getting the books to balance!!!!!!

I'm the medieval equivalent of an internal auditor & a inquisitor rolled into one annoying package!!!!!!!

That's OK! Your "thesis" showed me that you are a helpful and caring forumer. Qualities one can't take for granted these days.

Every strategy-game I play, I'm always most into the economics - not the warmonging, so this part (the things you explained), I've got a good hold of now. It's building cities, using diplomants, merchants, etc. that is fun - war is just a means to improve the above.

I've played this game for two weeks now, and I still haven't tried out a single battle - I let the computer do that for me. I'll just lose bigtime anyway.

Oh... it seems I'm drifting off here! Anyhow; thanks for all kind replies to my query!
