    @hooahguy14- I'm not suggesting that one SHOULD sack the Holy Temple at Jerusalem, merely that classical-era armies often did in fact loot religious/funerary structures of cultures other than their own, either in anger at the defenders or for financial reasons, or some other motivation.

    @ EdwardL- I may appear and speak like a civilized being (sometimes), but I'm really just a jumped-up old-time gangster with access to the royal treasury and military machine. Add to that a homicidal attitude and inherent lack of respect for any opposing cultures (anyone my "gang" happens to be at war with at the moment) and you could see why I would sack a royal tomb for cash.

    I think that it is amusing how a little education and technological advancement suddenly turns a bunch of homicidal criminals bent on taking over what others have built into a "civilized" culture, which is exactly what most of the megalomaniacs who ruled ancient empires in fact were.
