    Default lighting

I know this has been touched on briefly, but I really think the shading aught to be lightened up just a tad. I mean, I like darker shades, too, and at one angle, it's perfect, but at most angles it's so dark, I can't see most of the beautiful details on these units. Sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on in the battle at all.

I have to agree with Bellum, they are a little too dark.

Not that I'm completely pissed off about it, I mean, I love this mod... Just don't label me as a whiner, ok? The units are beautiful, everything is beautiful, and even the funny-looking Bovi is beautiful... Yeah... But they are just a tad too dark(don't kill me!)...

Goth did release other lighting files, the one used in EB was the winner of a public poll IIRC. I'm sure you'll find the others if you do a quick search on the TWC download section.

People really, stop making bad jokes and forcing the issue the internet can't convey tone or lightheartedness so read your posts aloud before posting and if they sound offensive you may want to edit them.

There have been a lot of flamers and trolls around using nonsensical arguments and pissing off people with good intentions trying to help and guys from the team doing their best to explain their choice. You may not have any bad intentions of course but don't push it.

Unless you at least know bovi personally that joke is retarded...

I actually prefer the shading. I viewed it with disdain at first, but i've really come to appreciate how if blends the seams of units and tone downs the color schemes a bit, giving it a less cartoonish feel, as well as less of a Baskin Robbins parade.

If I remember correctly, teammembers said there should be alternate lighting files included in the 1.0 download, due to differences caused by various monitors.

I agree; I just feel it's slightly overdone.

Here's the post from Goth47 regarding this matter.....

Here is a link to 4 Lighting files we created at EB ranging from dark(the default) to light.
choose the descr_battle_map_lighting_and_fog_control file you want to choose and paste it into the EB\data folder , you should find one you like

    Ahhh a convert .
The Lighting vote we ran earlier this year was a very close run thing, Personally i prefer the darkest lighting file as it looks more moody and like edwardL says it goes towards removing the cartoon feel that the original RTW lighting caused.
Its mostly down to preference at the end of the day, people that prefer visual realism and the effect it has en masse tend to go for the darker looking settings and people that prefer to see the gorgeous individual uniforms prefer the lighter settings. Thats why we created alternative lighting files, we dont want to force anyone to play the game to our tastes alone.
Thanks go to lysander13 for posting the link in this thread, and now that the issue has been raised i will try to get the alternative lighting files included on the download page at EB and the Forums.

edit:-just out of curiosity I would be interested in your comments on the other lighting files , (which one you like best etc), just one tip, try to play a few battles with each file before deciding on your choice, lighting can change from battle to battle.

    Thanks

Look, I know you don't mean it as an offense, but please refrain from making unnecessary comments such as "people that prefer visual realism (...) go for the darker looking settings". That I prefer a lighter tone than you does not mean that I don't prefer visual realism, it could just as much mean that I don't agree with you what "visual realism" is. For example, before I switched lighting files, my Gaesatae were partly black because of the lighting. Black, I tell you - and that was in the middle of an open field in the jolly light of day, with the grass around them conveying no signs of that shade which appeared to be on my loved ones. I did not find that visually realistic, so I switched to a lighter lighting and my problem was fixed.

Now, if you still disagree with me and think that the darker lighting is more realistic, that's fine with me. But don't tell me that I don't want visual realism just because I choose lighter lighting settings than you.

No problem good sir...If I could answer or direct people in a direction where they can find answers to their grievances then perhaps that'll be of some small help.Lord knows there seem to be quite a few posters on these forums lately stating their grievances in a not so cordial manner.I for one have nothing to complain about with the current release....well maybe just one small issue. How come the Romans still don't have the Lorica Segmenta?....Hehe...Just kidding.

I have to say that I agree too. It's a relatively minor thing, but if someone has time to tweak it a little bit that would be great. I love looking at the awesome units and sometimes it's just too dark for me to see the details. (the battles are what is too dark; the campaign seems fine to me)

Just so the EB team can have a little more information to help decide if they should take any action, I have to say that I have personally viewed EB on more than half a dozen different displays, and it looked a little too dark on all of them. These include a wide variety of displays ranging in size from 17" to 24" made by three different manufacturers. Some of these were a Samsung 940, Samsung 245, as well as various Sony and Viewsonic CRTs. I could also try it on a 46" Samsung LN-T4665, which is an HDTV with a ridiculous contrast ratio, but I haven't done that yet. I imagine it would look much better on here, but I don't think many people would be using something like that for EB.

So, from what I have seen it could stand to be brightened slightly, because it's not just one or two old monitors that are too dark.

I (we) just want to be able to see all the great details on the units a little easier. If you have time to do this, I think it would take EB one step closer to perfection.. :)
