disappearing family tree

I am playing a modded version of Medieval II Total War as england when i went randomly to look at my family tree, everyone was gone. Instead there was this man and his wife, who were both dead, whom I had never seen before! It said he died in Venice, none of my characters, armies, etc. had even been there yet. Plus this also seemed to cause all characters who haven't come of age yet to never do so. I kept getting messages about a new child but i never had anyone come of age after this occurred so i ended up losing the game because all of my generals died of old age. Please help me. I don't know how to modify anything with the family tree, nor have i tried so i'm a little confused as i don't know what to check for any errors.

This happens when a general from a foreign faction (in-married) becomes faction leader in your faction.
