Thats the Apaches problems, very remote starting locale. You should try Spain or one of the southern factions, they start off pretty fast combat wise and stay that way. The only exception to that 'might' be Mayans, since they are out on the Yucatan.

Hi Bud. Nice to see that you have taken up your usual business of creating polls.

I find the Americas campaign very enjoyable. Fighting with Spanish conquistadores against those chickens is really fun. They have dangerous infantry and have dangerous cavalry. In the beginning you need those mercenaries. And I can play the evil one. I like it to play a mean cruel leader; slaughtering in the name of God /Gold.

    Hi Budwise

Also glad to see you back in the game !!

Personally I agree that New Spain would be a good choice but the numerous mercenaries make it a little too easy. Also the fact that you get numerous Conquistadors TANKS as rewards adds to the relative ease.

I'd recommend New Spain but with a limit of maybe 2 natives per stack as well as not leaving any natives as garrisons for your settlements. This will slow down your expansion and be a little more realistic. My 2-cents worth.

I'm playing as New Spain and currently I'm facing 20+ armies of angry natives and so far I killed around 10,000 enemy troops in the last few turns. New Spain sees so much action that I have more than one battle every turn. I did do a campaign as the Apache and I was bored stiff, mainly due to the battles I had being so very boring.

If you want the game more challenging, use cheats to give the other factions unlimited amounts of gold. That way, you will actually fight against full stacks of high tier units relatively frequently compared to the occaisonal pitiful artillery/militia stacks that you might see otherwise.

Aha finally got the game today after almost a month+ of waiting and money scrimping. Started with the Americas as the Spanish and boy was I surprised to see I couldn't build any good buildings at all. Then I saw that viceroy whatche-macall-it in the manual. Does anybody know how long it will take for me to get all the good stuff?

Americas is quite fun in the sense you start out small then gradually grow larger but we all know we want those bloody dragoons ASAP!!

Mesos have no chance againts human controlled all-mounted gunners army. I lose about 5 men from friendly fire in such battles. Apache's problem is the fact that they are the only one that worship great spirit and the fact they destroy every breakable building in conquered non-rebel city. I have 26settlements right now and need to take those 4 other that are around tenochtilan from yellow dragons to compete this one.

    Bud,

I'm glad you said it - I was thinking the same thing. For me the evidence speaks for itself, I tried it, played it for a bit, then went back to MTW2 & the big map...

Not sure what it is but I think for me it's the scope - I love the big map!!

Apaches wouldn't be so boring if the enemy at least tried to raid your towns. It's quite hard to defend a pile of teepee's.

I have to agree that this campaign has been a disappointment for me - it was the one I expected the most of, and turns out it's a lot less fun than Britannia and the Crusades.
Not really because of the lack of city developpment, wide regions or anything, more because every faction can field tens of full stacks, and fighting so many huge battles where you take 100 dead for 4000 kills gets a bit repetitive. Plus those huge battles don't mean a thing because next turn they'll have a new full stack for you to slaughter...
Anything wrong ? Blame it on me. I'm the French.

I totally disagree with the comments. I love this campaign. I've played as Aztecs and New Spain. Just gearing up to do an Apachean. I am not sure why this is not a good campaign. It has been a hoot. Especially the New Spain. Some interesting tactics using reams of mercenary armies to secure a foothold on the continent. Chatted with my buddy who is just finishing up with New Spain and he is enjoying also. The key to them is to use mercenaries at the beginning to ensure you can secure a foothold. It tells you that if you use the advisor.

This topic mostly started with someone who played Apache's at the start. As we know, the Apache have a massive starting distance, and have tons of expansion room to the east (all rebel, until the French show up quite some time later). Fighting 1 battle every 5 turns or so against a small rebel unit does get pretty boring. You might be able to attack Chichimecs south of you, but it would take tons of time not just getting there, but building up a force to attack them properly too.

    yep, it's boring

tried it as New Spain, was fun at first but quickly became samey as I plundered several similarly-laid out and similarly garrisoned native cities one after the other.

enjoying the crusades more, but I've mostly been playing RTW:BI on my laptop
