Thread: Pontus - Always outnumbered never outmatched (0.81 AAR)
V.T. Marvin 08:46 10-22-2007
Dear friends,

this is my first attempt in the AAR domain, but I hope you will enjoy it.

It is a Pontic campaign, played on medium battles and very hard campaign difficulty on EB 0.81 with Darth formations and Redmeth balanced money and mercenary script. I took the freedom to use Force Diplomacy in the early game for the sole purpose to obtain a ceasefire, but only on condition of major victory and a reasonable tribus pacis - it was to allow me to role-play a bit and not to be forced to stam-rolling expansion.

Hope you enjoyed
Feedback welcomed

I like your presentation, particularly the funnies. I couldn't help but gawk at the Epeirotes in that final campaign map shot...

Good stuff :)

Is it a teaser for your next Pahlavan AAR? Looks like you're the one who will bring glory to the Wastelanders once more. Cyruzus will be back, Awarakaramazzz!

Great AAR ... AND WITH PONTUS ! ! ! !
Though too short, I enjoyed it. Thx.

Oh yeah, I would like to try something like the immortal Waste Land by Arsaces, who in fact introduced me to EB through his amazing story, but I will do it my way - I am well aware that I can hardly stand any comparison with his opus magnum.

I wish that EB 1.0 will provoke Arsaces to continue his story or start another one. I really miss his wonderful characters Cyruzuz, Kuna, the invincible 7of12 phalanx or the cool French Capitain and all the others. Hope they will return...

Oh, and I forgot, maybe you could enlarge the pictures a bit, my old eyes got tired reading those small letters (but it was worth it!)

reminds me of pontos in my mak campaign, they basically took over asia minor.

Till I invaded.

They got owned.

sorry just had to throw that in, since pontos gives me a pain in the ass.

Not at all! It stands for "Velkej Tvrdej", which in Czech means something like "Big Rough". It is a name of my favorite character from a Czechoslovakian cartoon movie called "Velka syrova loupez" or "Grand Theft Cheese" which was legendary in my country in the time of my boyhood. It is a hilarious parody to Hollywood thrillers. The storyline is about a group of mice who try to rob a cheese-shop and have to overcome many obstacles. They are led by a chieftain Marvin, who used to live in a cinema, watching action movies, and therefore he is supposed to know the job. As he is trying to impersonate a real big maffia boss, he insist that the others address him with that boastful name "Big Rough Marvin"....
Now, my secret is out

Wow, that was excellent! You really got some great shots to complement a fascinating story. Pontos might even be worth revisiting...quite a few new units in that area now.

Great story, VT The "graphic novel" format was an excellent choice, and you made me laugh out loud a few times ( not good - I'm supposed to be working )

I was supposed to start a Pontos AAR, but I decided to wait for EB 1.0. Then when it came out I started a Romani campaign.

My Pontos AAR will be out soon. Although, unfortunately, I don't think it will match yours. Very good work!

I guess I saw that cartoon ,Although There are too many cartoons about mics ,It seems they are popular subjects for cartoon makers (While I hate them !!!)

BTW No sign of your next AAR yet  I can't hold my breath any more

Do not worry, there will be a new AAR, but I barely have some time for playing not to speak about writing. So far I am about year 250 B.C. with my Pahlavans and it is a total war indeed. I will try to make a few slides during the weekend, but I cannot promise it for certain, because my life issues, besides being quite extensive, are somewhat unpredictable as well.

Thank you all for your support! Let invite you for a beer meanwhile

Splendid...I had to surpress my laughs too,[ working hours]. This reminds me of "The Wasteland" by Obelics; please take this as a freaking big compliment.... 4 U & some more How about some Plzeňský Prazdroj? Or some Bavarian specialities?

Danke schön, Subedei. It was a big compliment indeed, as I have already noted, Arsaces/Obelics is my big hero.

Concerning the beer - Plzeňský prazdroj (also known as Pilsner Urquell) is definitely my favorite one. No wonder, I am from Plzeň/Pilsen. But I am not that picky to refuse a tasty Bavarian beer either. So, what about having a nice Paulaner Dunkel now... ...
... or two

BTW - I need your help, guys. Do you know, by any chance, how to switch on/off the unit banners and how to minimize the UI during the game? I know how to do that in preferences.txt, but it would help me taking nicer screenshots if I could toggle these as needed during the battle itself.
