    Default Apache goes to Brisbane!

    Mrs. Apache to be more correct. An old friend of hers who emigrated a decade or so back is very poorly and she's flying out on the 1st November to visit.

    So guys, I know there's a fair few members who live in the 'land down under' and I was asking do you have any tips or advice for me to pass on to her? It's her first visit to Oz.

    She'll be staying on the Sunshine Coast QL.

    Sunshine Coast eh? AFAIK no Org member up there.

    What sort of tips are you after?
    Food is good quality everywhere, prices are cheap.

    If she cant contain the need to shop, there is a DFO (Direct Factory Outlet) next to the Brisbane Airport.

    Im not much of a Coast person, besides owning a unit at Caloundra for a few years.

    If you were going I would adivse you to go to the Donut King at Caloundra, because its owned by friends Freed Donuts

    Best of luck to Mrs. Apache. If you ever feel the need for some Aussie atmosphere, come to Brisbane. sapi and I would be glad to have you in our fine city (mumbles about how Melbourne thinks they are the worlds most livable city)

    As for stereotypes:

    Queenslanders are rednecks, bogans and stupid, but incredibly rich.

    New South Welshman are too expensive, and they suck at everything (read: life [only because of State of Origin])

    Victorians love AFL and Cricket. Better than NSW, but still not nearly as good as QLD

    ACT (Australian Capital Terriotry) a small bunch, but think they are cool because they have the government. The town is quite literally boring. Everyone I know who has been there was incredibly bored. Best place in Australia for fireworks and p***

    Tasmanians are inbred, have multiple heads, but otherwise are ok

    South Australians are religious generally, their capital being the City of Churches. Small capital, but nice up in the mountains.

    Northern Terriorty is a great place to go for a one off, but is too hot to stay. You run out of stuff to do within 2 days.

    Western Australia is too far away for anyone to care. They are normal.


    As for State against state:
    NSW vs Everyone in general
    NSW vs QLD (the big one, and really the only noticable one)
    NSW vs VIC
    QLD vs VIC

    (note: all the above information is not true, it is Australian stereotypes of each other)

    Unless you're used to the weather down here, a few days on the coast without sunscreen will turn you into a red mass

    Other than that, pever's got it pretty much right - if she can avoid the usual stereotypes, and deal with the accent, she should be fine; the coast's a very nice place to visit, and should be enjoyable.

    Oh, and it's probably a good idea not to mention politics, as we'll be three weeks into an election campaign, and all thoroughly bored of it

    You forgot West against East. They just can't handle that we are better than they are. As to NSW vs QLD being the only big one you obviously don't know much about Sydney vs Melbourne. That is the only one that anyone down here actually cares about.

    Ive only been to Brisbane (well i live there.. ) and Sydney.
    Only thing I can say is that generally speaking the beutifulness of Brissy girls beats the Sydney girls.

    Ive only stayed at Sydney for 7 days but I only seen a beutiful women once, when I go to Brisbane city I see beutiful women least every 5 min.

    Plz NSW peoples.. spare me...

    If your after food in Brisbane (dont know the coast very well sorry) I can list couple fantastic restraunts in Brissy if you like.

    Sydney has the worst beaches of any capital city that I have visited bar Canberra... and that is only because we put the politicians inland...

    Over a month without the Mrs. Waht on Earth can I think to do?

    Try a Meat Pie...
    best food...ever.i...nvented...

    And go to the Gold Coast, check out Q1 and stuff. Avoid Surfers though, that place stinks.

    BTW I'm a very fussy eater. I dont eat burgers or pies.

    Tomato sauce? Hate it, i refuse to even touch the bottle. The stuff disgusts me.

    I heard Ipswich has a really good library. Although, Im not sure if thats simply because no one ever uses it

    And Beefy is pretty right about Brisbane beaches being better than Sydney ones. And I've hung out at both The best ones are near the border which is kind of no mans land though.

    It famous for the lifesavers pulling their speedos right up their bum-cracks.

    Its famous, but i dont actually know why. The best beach i have been to - Kings Beach, Sunshine Coast, Caloundra.

    ONe of the best beach trips I went on was at Rainbow beach (possibly NSW or QLD cant remember)

    we went 4wd'ing and then boarding down large sand dunes

    Queensland.

    That was the first beach i drove on. (by drive i mean control the wheel to a degree. I was only 8)

    Ditch the beaches.. Go to rocky land of China to discover the true greatness of mountains

    Beaches... Gold coast is more then enough for me

    Yep, Bondi beach is in Sydney. It isn't as good as some of the others because it is so packed with people.
