Do they work in a .cas file? I never seem to be able to change them, the information just gets ignored when I export the models. I don't think that it makes a difference as far as how RTW renders the unit, but does anyone know for sure?

Hm, either there are no modelers around here or I asked a really dumb question.![]()
They tend to work for me but i never muck around with them that much i usally just set everything to 1 ( apart from the sword or spear of course )
Hi, thanks for the responce. The thing is all the faces in my model have a bunch of seemingly random smoothing groops, so a few of them stick out, since the bordering faces have different groups. I've tried to delete them all and give them a value of 1, but after exporting and importing, the smoothing groups are the same as before. It's really annoying, the model in 3dsmax looks a bit like patch-work in some spots. Don't know if it affects how it looks in rtw, but I would like to fix it anyway. Any suggestions? I might be doing something wrong.
A good thing would be to try and see what the model looks like with the skin, once u have assigned the skin press f9 and that is how the model will look like in RTW.
If it still has the patch work affects than there are other things u can try.
Also is the problem on the back of his elbow

Certain areas are a bit darker when I apply the skin. Try as I may the .cas exporter ignores any changes I do to the smoothing groups. The only time a smoothing group changes is when I detach a part of the model and then re-attach it. When I do that a random face or 2 appear with a different selection of smoothing groups, for no apparent reason...
I must be doing something wrong, deleting the smoothing groups for all the faces and then giving them a value of one just doesn't work for me. What am I missing?
erm.... Yes, this is a bizzar problem indeed .
Have u trided detaching the torso, legs, arms, head, helmet, ectt. into different elements and setting them each indervidual smothing group
Ah, I think that works. But I would have to do the skin all over right?
try and skin all the parts in almost the same place as your skin before and than it is only a matter of copy and pasting.
Ok, it kinda works. Many thanks for your help.
I never use them for battle units, but they do fix a known issue of white blobs on strat units.
yes, it is exactlly the same here, I do not think they make that much of a difference, but I have heard about the white blobs on strat units aswell so if ever I do a strat model I tend to use them ( occasionally I would use them for battle units aswell ).Originally Posted by satanea juda
