Thread: Advice on vista-EB issues?

    Default Advice on vista-EB issues?

I'm having some trouble with EB crashing right when it gets to a battle (where a sprite issue normally causes a CTD), but I'm almost certain it's because I've got a new cpu with vista on it. I never had these problems with earlier internal builds on my xp machine. Any advice on what to do about it? I pretty much bought this damned computer just to play EB on, and to help do EB stuff on, but now the stupid thing is crashing when I want to play EB (oh the irony!).

Well, a totally new install of RTW, then patches of 1.3 and 1.5, and then a new install of EB 1.0 still gets me crashes when starting battles.

Have you run Windows Update and installed chipset/graphics card/sound card updates?

I've tried every device driver and they are all up to date. I basically can't get it to play a battle at all now.

I know this doesn't help, but here goes anyway:

    Hasta la Vista, baby!

On a more serious note, I guess I would try to install another OS on that machine, to rule out a hardware or driver issue. But that's just a little... Drastic.

At least you get to start a campaign, more than some other Vista users have been able to . Is the latest SVN version working for you BTW, or haven't you had the chance to download that yet?

Are you talking about a specific battle, or any battle? There might be some sprite issue left; even though I checked all the root sprites I didn't check the 001, 002 etc files. I don't know what makes the game use this or the other though, perhaps unit size or graphics quality setting? If it's a specific battle, which units are involved?

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

Hello. No advice really, I'm running on 64bit Vistas, I can play EB relativelly fine(from time to time it crashes but usually the strategic map graphics get broken first and I have enough time to save and it's always after some hours so I don't mind much).

Thinking about it again, make sure to turn off new features(Aero, user control), that you have installed dx9(I'm pretty sure you did, and it wouldn't run at all otherwiselly, just in case...). Also consider to post the configuration, maybe there could be some problematic part...

I dont think that you need to turn off Aero...I dont. Turning of UAC has cleared up alot of things for me though
