    Default Nostalgia

To those who read the pics and history section: My computer decided that my hard drive was unacceptable, and executed it after a long and drawn out battle. I just bought 2 news ones so this doesn't happen again. I am also sorry for the extremely long delay in posting my Lithuanian campaign (which was on siad defunct hard drive). Don't worry, I finished it, and will be posting the whole thing tomorrow and the day after, once I finish re-installing eveything (drives, games, etc...).

Now on to the meat of my post. After my computer crashed, I was forced to play shogun on my oh so old computer. I had the time of my life as the Uesugi Clan. A long war with the Takeda Clan draining my resources, the Hojo taking advantage, the Oda being swallowed up by the Mori, many desperate battles, me beheading the Mori in one fell swoop in single battle sending them into rebellion, the Shimazu goppling up the rebels afterward, the Oda coming back and killing of the Mori, me finally putting the Hojo to heel, the Final face off between me and and Shimazu (and the horrific battle it entailed - 12,000 dead in one battle!!!), having the game end in stalemate from fighting off rebels and the lack of manpower.

I've posted all this for the love of the game and the interest it has renewed in me. As such, does anyone know the difference between the SW mod and the Shogun mod? are they one and the same? Because I'm going to do my next history in Feudal Japan! Any suggestions on a Clan?

    Hi YLAC,
Despite MTW being a more techincally correct battlengine and having STW will always be my favorite TW and probably my favorite game ever full stop.

SWs aims to recreate the gameplay of STW in the battlefield by using the MTW (superior) engine and imho achieves it admirably.

In the campaign, the game features all the enhancemnts of MTW (such as princesses and civil wars and mercenaries and harder faction reaperances and v'n'vs for generals and ships) and a wooping 28 clans to choose from - all historically accurate, with their mons and everything!

It is a very good mod and offers plenty of interesting new starting positions through all the clans that it includes. It is also visually very pleasing (amazing work with agent pieces, new animations on the battlefield).

In addition (for those that always thought about it but never dared to make the step) it has a very very fun interesting mp component with regular sessions every Sunday @7:00pm GMT - the small friendly group that lies at the core will guarantee that you will have the time of your life - until April 2007 i was also an SP only person - but after the first pop there is no stop! In a 3-4 hour session you play as many satisfying battles as a 5 days full time campaign would yield - heh.

I enjoy both "versions" of mediaeval Japan - and I don't think I'm up to date on the latest MTW mod version, which I gather has grown considerably since I played it. Both have their plusses. The ONE thing I really really miss in the mod is the excellent STW FOG! I just found that so atmospheric, and it just doesn't happen the same in MTW. You can't beat the impression of an indistinct army slowly emerging through the mist and descending on you...

Ah, nostalgia indeed, you've got me tempted to try one or the other again when I get home
