    Default about switching governments

Can you build a regional MIC level 5 under a level 4 government, then destroy it and rebuild a type 2 government and still use the level 5 regional units? Consequently, can you use buildings meant for lower governments with higher governments in general? I didnt want to try it and have all 3408950345 turns i spent to build a level 5 regional mic all go to waste, thanks.

You can but EB considers it cheating, if we could stop you from doing it we would.

It is possible to do this. The official stance of EB is that doing so is considered an exploit, but if you're okay with that in your own game then we aren't going to send you nasty emails or anything. It takes significant investment of time and money for this anyway, so it's an exploit that effectively makes you pay a penalty.

My own view for my own games is that if it happens that I change governments then I leave everything as is. However, I will never change governments in order to max out both types of barracks.

Yes, unfortunately you can. We tried to make it impossible but were thwarted by hardcode. We might have worked around it by writing an awful lot of code, but we instead encourage people not to do so.

OK.I'm on Pontos, so I wanted to
-build up the regional MICs in Ipsos and Sardis up to level 4 (hellenic medium phalanx) and then destroy the type 3 government and switch to a more stable one.
-Same with 3 provinces (Sardis, Halikarnassos, and Side) in south Asia Minor to recruit the karian warband and then go to the most stable gov't possible.
-Also in Ancyra, i have a type 4 gov't that I want to destroy and replace with type 2 after the client ruler dies and I have established level 5 regional mic.
-Everything else I'll be playing straight by the book, the future governments in greece, bosporus, skythia, east will be just the maximum i can get.

I don't plan on then trying to max out the factional MIC's in the areas I mentioned before after i destroy and replace the original government, though...I just want more public order and nicer buildings. Would that still be considered "exploiting"?

The way I see it, it isn't too farfetched and ahistorical as long as you dont try to max out the factional MIC either - the people of the settlement still keep their old war traditions, but the city and living environments are improved with the Pontos brand name on all the new statues and buildings, kind of like a "special exhibit" the way the Romans used Sparta.

It's a sort of contradiction, to make the inhabitants more like your culture yet not . Do as you wish however.

I understand and agree with the reasoning of the designers of EB to consider usage of "excess-level" local MICs as a cheat or exploit.

For my part, after upgrading the government of a region if I have a local MIC that's not supposed to exist under the new government, I simply stop building units which are enabled by the "excess-level" MIC. I keep on building only those units that would be enabled by the maximum level of local MIC allowed under the new government.

Since that seems to be no different from "downgrading" the existing MIC and since I'm also really bugged by things like seeing Greek Classical Hoplites in the build-list in Taras or Rhegion after I put Roman Govt I there, I'm inclined to think it wouldn't be cheating to first demolish the "excess-level" MIC, then use process_cq command to put in the maximum level of MIC now allowed under the new government, then use add_money command to subtract/make up for any discrepancies between your treasury before and after this operation.

I hope makers of EB won't consider this a cheat, that's as close as I can get for rectifying this unwanted situtation.

I think you'll find most players, before recruiting any units, or changing governments, will consider the plausibility of such actions. Its not like you are going to lose completely, and taken some backward steps purely based on you own plausibility assessment, is sometimes just as engaging as killing 100% of the enemy...5 times in a row, and finishing the campaign by 230BC.

I discovered this by accident last night, in a settlement by the black sea. I was using the recruitment guide, but got in a muddle between regional and native troops and which govement type was needed.

I made the mistake of building a type 4 govement for native troops(playing as Maks, wanted Thracian peltasts & elite inf), spent ages building the barracks, then had to start again with a type 1 gov. I won't do it intentionally, but in my Mak campaign I sure can build along list of troops that aren't Macedonian, so many infact, I can't decide my armies compositions. It's a right old cultural mish mash, but so is the area, as even with the type 4 gov, you still have a Greek/Steppe/Celt troop diversity, it's an interesting area just West of the black sea.

PS, I like the Celtic Nobillity(they look like Neitos) and Mercanary Generals that I found whist building the wrong barracks.
