Hoplite formation

No, I'm not criticizing the way in which the team has represented the formation for the Hoplites and Spartan Hoplites(which i think is very good btw). I was just wondering whether this formation should apply to the levy hoplites, the Carthaginian militia, and the Liby-Phoenician infantry which i thought also used the saem formation as the Hoplites.

Forgive me if i have not read something that answers this question.

Umm, it does...all the units you mentioned use the same formation.

Yep, they all use the same formation.
However, shouldn't the Liby-Phoenicians be using the Iphkritean phalanx formation instead? From their description:

There were a huge number of these half-breed men, so the Carthaginians used them in the army. They were armed and armored much the same as their Greek enemies on Sicily. They were armored in a linen cuirass, Thracian helmets, and bronze greaves. They have the traditional round shield of the Greek hoplite, but use longer spears with the underhand thrust, much like the reformed hoplites of the Greek mainland.

I know they all have the overarm spear animation but i was referring to the closer standard formation of the spartan hoplites and classical hoplites. IN which the soldiers are standing much closer together unlike the levy hoplites and Liby-Phoenician infantry.

Put them in defense or 'guard' mode.

That has nothing to do with it, it just keeps the unit sticking to the rank and file instead of spreading out pushing foes.

True, the "militia hoplite" types (Greek, Carthie, the Saba urban spearmen) have a bit looser order than the regulars. To compare:

"Militias":
formation        1, 1.2, 2, 2.4, 4, square


"Regulars":
formation        0.76, 1.2, 1.6, 2.4, 4, square

Probably not enough drill. They're still in general terms in rather close order compared to most infantry though.
