I'd like to know if anyone has trouble fighting in the desert area using non-native troops. As the Spanish in current campaign (normal difficulty - GA), my troops really have trouble fighting the Egyptian in the Sahara desert area. My troops always become exhausted just a short moment after the battle begin (both defense and offense). However, the Egyptian troops don't seem to have any trouble running back and forth. Worst yet, I always have to fight 3000 to 5000 Egyptian while I only have nearly 2000 for each invasion. If the climate condition can affect the performance of the troops, will those desert soldiers suffer the same penalty if they fight in the Northern colder climate?

Anyone has any recommendation on fighting in the desert with non-native troops?

They won't suffer any penalty (at least not most of them...camels and maybe a few other types will) but the important thing is that YOU won't suffer any penalties.

European units tend to be much stronger than their Arab counterparts, and much more heavily armored. In the cool climate of Europe, this is a real advantage, because your guys will last much longer than theirs. It's a disadvantage in the desert, though, because your guys wear out very quickly under all that armor and are soon worthless.

So, to answer your question, no, most of them won't suffer any penalties. But when your guys aren't wearing out super quickly, you'll find that your troops are much tougher than theirs....

Just tried that. They still get tired easily but not as bad as the amoured ones. Now, I need to try some un-armoured, light armoured troops like Swiss Pikemen, Gallowglass and Viking.

    Thanks guys.

Actually Camels and Desert Archers, not sure about Saharan Cavalry, get a bonus fighting in the desert. So watch them closely.
