Is it possible to build the crusade specific units(Teutonic Knights, Order Foot Soldiers etc.) Usually when I start a crusade the crusade will start with one unit of each. Is there a way to add more of these units to your crusade, or once the crusade is over is it possible to retrain these units to bring them back to full strength? I'm asking this because last night, while playing as the English, a German crusade came marching through my territory, I happened to click on it to check the makeup of it and noticed they had 3 full strength units of Teutonic Knights.

No, it is not possible to train new units. Which units you recruit depends on the zeal of the provinces you march through.

That brings up another question, I was under the impression that inquisitors raise the Zeal in a province. I've had some inquisitors in about 10 different provinces for about 50 years now, I just happened to notice that all of these provinces have a Zeal of 0 now. I remember when I first moved them in the Zeal seemed to go up for the first few turns, and after that I didnt really check the Zeal on those provinces again until just now and they are all down to 0.

My understanding was that inquisitors only have an impact when they are used to inquisite a general who has perhaps lost faith.

Drop one of your less-loyal (and low zeal) generals on the inquisitor and see what it does...

If you leave your Inquisitor for too long in your province you get the 'Inquisition started in ****'. When that happens the zeal the Inquisitor bumped up will get burned out, as he tries and kills people. They will be too fearful to even think of going on Crusades.

The Inquisitor is also good at rooting out herecy (burns them at the stake). Very good if you have suffered a historical event about herecy.

I think that how many Crusade-only unit you can get will depend on the zeal level of the province where you start the Crusade. Higher zeal = more and better troops. It may depend on other things such as the King' stat (higher influence and peity), level of developement of the province. I have had 5 Crusades so far, but only get one knight (Knight of Santiago). The others get either 2 order foot soldier or 1 order foot soldier and 1 fanatic.

Still, I am not so sure what will affect the zeal level. I have one province: the King with very good stats + around 900 garrison troops, 3 assasins, 2 spies, 2 bishop, 1 cardinal, 100% Catholic, best level of developemet (has church, monastary, reliquary, catheral), zeal = 37% (stay there for nearly 20 yrs now). Compare to a newly conquer province: OK stat governor + 240 garrison troops, 2 assasins, 1 spy, 1 bishop, 2 cardinals, 100% Catholic, newly developed (has church & monastary), zeal = 97% (go up from around 20 and stay at 97 for a few yrs now). So, what would be the key affect to the zeal level?

Pdoan8, your new ruler of that province might have some Zeal upping Vice. Like Zealot or something. Build a Crusade there and you will see a monster Crusade.
