    Hello fellow ancient warfare junkies.

I`m playing the greeks in EB with BI and in every game no matter what i do,difficulty medium,i get a*s raped by the maks.I think it is impossible to beat them or i got retarded really bad since the last version of EB.My units seem weaklings and the makedons have that full stack of seemingly uber units. The AI is not dumb dammit,i am.

Now because i love this game so much i have a few questions beside my problem

    1)What mods do you play
2)What units should i keep in guard mode
3)The classical hoplites in Greece comes from factional MIC or not? (cause i can recruit only levy hoplites (girls))
4)This game is so hard and i dont understand a lot of it :D Like RP ing: going to olimpiads, etc
5)Thank you EB team, the game is now a drug

Try an easier faction. Rome/Carthie are probably the easiest.

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

Use your family members. Their bodyguards are one of toughest infantry in game.

Phalanxes and every Hoplite style unit: Soldiers that have large round shields and fight with overhand spears.

Yes, you have to upgrade the MICs

Try not to let the enemy uber cavarly charge at you.
Kill the enemy general at all cost
Dont fight Maks on field battle. They are hard to beat.
Dont let their cavarly do their job

I have not got around to playing the Greeks yet, but just wooped them easily(Maks) for Sparta, because they divided their forces, but they looked quite strong.
Considering their starting forces it should be quite easy to crush the Maks in the south very quickly in the open, 1-3 turns Medium battle setting.

Commit all the Generals in area, if there are any decent traits to swop, swop them to the best commander.
Only recieve the Mak cav in 5 line deep if possible on guard mode. Don't separate your units to much until their cav is worn down. If you flank a pike unit, guard the unit that's doing the flanking - if their cav are still about or if they have reserves to counter.
Cash in a building if you must to get a few mercs(extra spears against the cav), if you find them that troublesome that is.

To be honest, I play EB so much that RTW seems like a mod of EB and noth the other way around... But yeah, XGM is a good mod.

for the greeks im on XH/M and it seems the best strategy is to make sure krete, corinth and chalkis get taken ASAP(<1 year) also use your army like this get at least 2 FM and the unit of greek classical hoplites. surround them with a good contingent of levy's and use the slingers, archers, and skirmishers you start with! leaving only a paltry garrison in each of your cities except athens.

as for Guard mode i have found, from MP battles, it works best like this

form a long solid battle line and set all hoplites to guard mode that are in the battle line, they work well this way as long as their is a battle line where each unit is protecting teh others flanks. though you have to make sure to have some units to help with your flanks and backside

any units not in this main battle line should be set off guard mode especially if flanking the enemy from the back. normally i do the hammer and anvil with the levys acting as the anvil and my spartans/classical units acting as the hammer.

Most of the mak armies i have faced are near a fulls stack at least but a good amount of the army is skirmisher/missile units so make sure to use your auxilia type untis to duel with them, as you should be superior to theirs(as all slingers we have start with at least 1 chevron and kretans are always better than regular toxotoi.

as for your talking about the MIC level for greek classicals i didnt upgrade any MICs until i first upgraded Sparta's so i can produce classical hoplites but its 7500$ so i had to wait until i controlled thermon and demetrias before saving up enough money for this.

lol this post is really long sorry i just get up in arms when people say the KH is impossible

i always see people saying how beginners should play as rome because theyre easy. i gotta disagree though, since as rome you fight against nearly every faction in the game, if not at least every culture, so youre constantly adapting. makes it fun, but i wouldnt call it easy. VH/M difficulty may explain my own disagreement, but all the same, rome is one hell of a mountain to climb!

Yes, but it's a much less steep slope at the bottom of that mountain--Rome is one of the few factions I've played as so far that doesn't immediately plunge into debt, so it's much easier to "ease in" with Rome instead of (for example) taking Pyrrhus and frantically rampaging through Greece and Macedonia in an increasingly desperate effort to eliminate your opponents before your army (which can't be replenished due to debt) is ground down to dust. I think that's what people are meaning when they suggest that beginners or people having trouble should try starting out with Rome.

    Cheers.

Rome is easy to start with because, once you have disbanded the ships, you are not running in the minus with speed record.

The only real enemy around is Epeiros down in Taras, but your army is sufficent to deal with this problem. The Gaulls always accept peace in the first turns - and if not, you still have a strong zone of Eleutheroi buffers between them and you.

After some time Carthago might become a problem. There is also the chance of Greek or Epirote landings in southern Italy. But that's all for the first 20 or so years, as long as you do not leave Italy. That is time enough for an EB newbee to get into the game mechanics.
