    Default Vista with Microsoft Office.

Does anyone know if a 2003 Microsoft Office SE (originally for 2000 and XP) would work on Vista?

It should, though iirc Outlook versions prior to 03 have issues.

Here's one for you; Vista only comes with Wordpad. The be all - end all of computer operating systems does not even have a decent program to write your grandmother a letter with. What a rip off.

Can I install Word from my Office 2000 disk?

    My Outlook 2002 works.
Apart from that I use Open Office and that works fine as well.

Er Beirut, it has Works, which is basically Word 2001. Still, I'm lacking PowerPoint, which I need for my study.

What's the verdict? I will tell you. You ready? Here it is:

    NO.

Well, not very well anyway. You can write essays, make graphs, whatever. However, you can't open the file back up. LOL. Well, I've wasted my last install for office. Great. Just great.

    I could not be happier.

    www.openoffice.org

I'd try that, it works fine as I said and it's completely free.

And congratulations to your 900th post.

Well, it appears to work. This settles several problems. One question: Do you know if a file created in an OpenOffice program will open in an Microsoft Office program?

If you save it in a compatible office standard, it should. Haven't gotten any complaints so far.

It depends. I use MS office and OO all the time, and for power point presentations, things do NOT migrate well between the two - in either direction.
Now, this may be different for certain versions of office vs. certain versions of OO (i.e., if you try all possible combinations, maybe there exists one that works ok), but for the ones I've tried (I think, MS office 2k and 2003, and OO 1.1, IIRC), no.

I don't use word, but for excel charts I've also had problems. So, in conclusion, in my experience, the answer is no.

Pretty weird since OO Writer can save in Word format. But yeah, haven't really tested it, just sent a few files to other people which seemed to work.

Microsoft Office has completely ceased to function on my machine. I think I may have to purge it....

Writer to Word transition seems to be smooth.

Apologies for quoting myself, but I am just stressing a point here. My post referred strictly to excel (especially charts) and power point presentations.
