The Plague came, saw and didnt kill my soldiers!

(Well not entirely true, it killed the garrisoned soldiers in my settlements)

Gday,

I finally hit the Black Plague in my English Campaign. When it struck, I had just finished building a big army of 7 and a half stacks of units, that are to travel east and conquer the Holy Lands (and whateverelse I want on the way).

So I built them all fortresses and locked them down (2 stacks in Venice, 3 in Milan and the other 2 and a half in Bern), thinking to myself, oh well there goes my army I just spent years building. But to my surprise, the plague passed through, wiped out my economy and a massive amount of my citizens and soldiers that were garrisoning settlements, but the soldiers and Generals that were in forts and also just "on the road" did not take any casualties at all, and this was for the whole duration!

In fact I also noticed the Russians, Danes and Poles who were beseiging me at Hamburg also took no losses during this period. (until I sallied forth and sent them all packing )

Now I thought to myself - Sweet, my self proclaimed "crusade" can still happen, whilst I am still rebuilding the rest of the empire and trying to get back to positive treasury! So right now, they are sipping wine & enjoying the smoldering views of a recently sacked Zagreb(milan), and now have their greedy sights on Sofia (byz).

Is this a known flaw in the game?

I just would of expected to have taken a heavy toll, considering over half of my army were in one small area, exposed out in the open!

I guess I know what to do next campaign when the Black Death comes a knocking. Plague moves in, my soldiers will move out.

They were away from the large population centers, and probably have better hygeine then the average citizen, and do a better job of keeping the plague carrying rats away then in a large urban center. Makes sense to me that they woulden't get it.

Only units in settlements and sometimes units placed next to them are affected. It was the same in RTW but easier to spread there.

In this game when you get the message that football is banned it is time to start looking for a place to hide. When it strikes not all your settlements are effected the first turn and you have a chance to get a few troops to safety. Forts are safe baring intrusion of infected spies.

Only permanent settlements are affected by the Plague and only there a unit, agent or character can be infected. An infected unit, however, can carry the Plague into a field army if it joins one.

This is a feature of the game. You're just lucky that an enemy infected spy didnt infiltrate your armies because by then, you're whole crusade will be severely weakened

There was one thing I neglected to mention though. A couple of the generals within these stacks did contract the plague. But still no casualties! and further to that, once the plague died out, the generals were cured and carried on living.

I know this because their names (including my fave General, Harold the Conqueror) were listed in the event frame that pops up at the new turn stage.

I must say I was expecting something of the likes of RTW, when sickness occurs, you are lucky to still have your general at the end of it.

I might just put this one down to luck I guess.
