Default Romani CTD after battle affects all previous saves

Here is a first for me. I'm not sure what the year was, 255 or so I think. I attacked a carthiginian army standing near the main city(forgot the name) on sardin, which pulled the garrison out as reinforcements. After winning the battle, I got a CTD. Fine, I went ahead to load my autosave; I think that battle was the first thing I did that turn. The autosave CTD on loading just after the bar fills. Kind of weird because the save should have occured before the CTD. Fine, I always save before ending my turn, so I tried to load my quicksave, same thing. I tried restarting my computer then, same thing. Then I tried loading another save game from my Saka campaign, which loads fine.

The only EB mods I have are BI exe and modified Darth's formations. I don't suppose that the CTD could have corrupted EB program files? I am using Vista, so any changes would have gone to the virtual store. Also, I'm playing on Huge unit size.

I tried running the EB validation program I saw stickied, but couldn't get it to function. I have JRE installed, but for some reason it's not recognizing the 'java' command. I don't know how well it would work anyways on vista because of the seperate program files dirs.

    here's the autosave:
    http://www.axifile.com/?4483857

    here's the quicksave:
    http://www.axifile.com/?6128988

I also tried checking the CTD with the ProcMon but I couldn't make heads or tails out of the thing. I put in a filter to show all but non-successful results and compared to a log of successfully loading a save, but there didn't seem to be any great disparity. I would upload the log, but it is 92MB. I also tried starting a new Romani campaign, with no problems getting to the campaign map.

Well, I've been having a blast up until now, I must commend the EB team for an excellent 1.0 release. All things considered, I'm surprised at the stability, naturally there'll always be a few kinks in a project of this immensity. Hopefully, this isn't a result of using the BI exe. I guess I'll cool off and play MTW2:Kingdoms for a while; I haven't even taken it out of the shrink wrap yet (EB 1.0 was released just after I bought it).

I'll take a look at your savegame sometime, but if you want to validate your installation in the meantime, you need to add [disk:\your\JRE\location]\bin to your PATH environment variable, or add this path to the start of the first line of the batch file.

Great bovi, I got the validate to run, how do I know if it worked or not, I got no output or anything, the console window just disappeared when it finished I guess. It ran for a good while. No new files in the EB directory to indicate a log either.

It should write a file called ebValidationResults.txt and open it with Notepad. If you add a line with pause in it between the two commands in the batch file, you'll be able to see the error message if there is one.

Silly me, I didn't run the batch as admin so the file went to the virtual store. I've uploaded the complete file here:

These ones especially seem to be of concern:
    Code:
You seem to have a corrupt install. There are changes to files, or some are missing.
However, these may be conscious changes you have made, to remod EB. See below for details.

You're right, the other files are merely the additional ones from BI.

Notice that all the battlefield02.tga files are the same? The Egyptian and Greek are supposed to be the same, as is carthie+nomad, but not that same .

Changed file: .\eb\data\ui\barbarian\interface\battlepage_02.tga (expected checksum 2acf98c78eccadbde9c3585494f3fe20, got 078333e0a8aeb7547a2b8fed408cc9f2)

Changed file: .\eb\data\ui\egyptian\interface\battlepage_02.tga (expected checksum 984722ecf3262725f03d6c56ee2f21a2, got 078333e0a8aeb7547a2b8fed408cc9f2)
Changed file: .\eb\data\ui\greek\interface\battlepage_02.tga (expected checksum 984722ecf3262725f03d6c56ee2f21a2, got 078333e0a8aeb7547a2b8fed408cc9f2)
Changed file: .\eb\data\ui\nomad\interface\battlepage_02.tga (expected checksum d4cb0c6af53409180fa0f63914a11c86, got 078333e0a8aeb7547a2b8fed408cc9f2)
Changed file: .\eb\data\ui\roman\interface\battlepage_02.tga (expected checksum 3bca234420749f5003b2671a960fa07a, got 078333e0a8aeb7547a2b8fed408cc9f2)

Could this be Vista being "helpful" and serving the same file for the different directory structures, since the filename is the same?

Edit: Bar that. I checked the checklist and see that no file is supposed to have that checksum anyway.

I suggest you make a backup copy of this installation and extract the files that are marked as changed, overwriting into it (excepting the formations, I suppose, as you've remodded those). Then run once more and see if it screws up again.

I hate to ask, cause I know you are a busy man, bovi. But, how exactly can I do this without uninstalling EB or running a repair install? The standard full installer doesn't have options for extracting single files. I'm also a little ambivalent about doing anything but a clean reinstall considering the difficulty I had going from .81a to 1.0, once again the Vista virtual store screwed me up.

Select the RTW directory in Windows Exploder. Press Ctrl-C, then Ctrl-V. Wait until done.

To backup my existing install right? I understand that part. But then what? Fresh uninstall/reinstall or repair installation using the installer? Maybe I'm making this too complicated in my own mind. I'm sorry, sometimes i have trouble following simple instructions, I just want to make sure I understand. I swear I'm not on crack.

The part I guess I'm having trouble with is:

Ah, sorry I misunderstood which part. Open the installer with 7-zip and extract the files in question.

Sweet, I had no idea you could do that. I extracted a few of the files and replaced the faulty ones in my installation, but still no go. I also tried renaming map.rwm in the main and virtual store. So you think this campaign is just forfeit then? I can start new campaigns no problem and load other campaigns without issue, but I can't get any of the saves of this campaign to work. I don't know if it's actually an EB issue, or just some weird corruption that could have happened in vanilla. Yeah, if you have opportunity bovi, maybe you should try loading one of those saves. Unless you have some other ideas.

    The files I replaced are:
    Code:

No, I've been busy lately. I tried to get into M2TW:K but it pales so vastly in comparison. I'll probably start a new campaign I guess. Though I'm gone at a concert this weekend so we shall see when I get back. Give a try if you have time, but thanks for your help bovi.

It crashes when loading the game on my computer as well, so your save is definitely screwed, sorry. I have no idea why, although the last files read are related to ancillaries. I don't expect you to remember, but do you happen to know any particular ancillaries that were gained lately?
