just thought I'd post a new thread for my favourite game so far this year. Does anyone else have it?

Yep, if you play it legendary, its very, very good indeed.
I love it soo much, everyone with a 360 should get it.

It's pretty damn good, best in the series.
What are your gamertags? I'll send you a FR so we can meet up for a game.
This game is where I disappeared to. Sadly, I'm not that good at it yet, but I'd love to play with you guys.

"My milkshake brings all ye gentlefolk to the yard, and they're like 'It's better than thine.' Verily, it's better than thine, I could teach you, but I must levy a fee."
Bah, over-rated and over-hyped. Sure, it's an okay game, but it doesn't really introduce anything new to the genre. The only reason it's so big is because of it being one of the first decent FPS's for the console.
It definitely didn't deserve the absurd media attention it got when released - why couldn't games such as Bioshock and World in Conflict get all this attention? At least they introduce new and interesting gameplay. After all, can Master Chief shoot lighting from his hand?
No-name man from Bioshock and every Wizard from every fantasy game ever can shoot lightning from their hands. Sure, he got his powers from "genes" rather than "world splitting magical forces" but not really new gameplay.
But yeah, the hype for Halo 3 was way overdone. But, it's still great fun for the console gamers, exactly as you said.
By the way, anyone see that Bungie [initially a developer for Macs] "bought themselves back" from Microsoft? They're still tied into a publishing deal, but Bungie is their own entity again.

Well. Housemate got it, I played it. Personally, I think it's pretty worthless. No fun and I can't really see where all the production values went to.

Played it at a friends house.... I thought it looked great, but that could've had something to do with the massive LCD and floor shaking digital surround system we were playing on.![]()
I totally agree. It gets very frustrating for me to play a FPS on something so imprecise as a analog stick. The wiimote is better, but a good mouse is still hard to beat.Originally Posted by Bob the Insane

If there is anything you can't hold against Halo it's that, it may be overhyped but the mechanics are as elegant as ever, tactics in the Halo's are extremily flexible, that is what makes them so great. It's not an action rpg like Bio, shock, it's a straight shooter and it strikes the perfect balance between firepower and melee combat, core design is a thing of beauty, it are other things most of all level design and repetition that prevent me from calling it true classics.Originally Posted by Mikeus Caesar

But this is where the real difficulties begin, since each student inevitably selects, constitutes criteria, according to his own unconscious assumptions, social, ethical or political. Good game. I played bits and parts over a few weeks at a friend's house. Finally beat it last week.
A bit weak, I was expecting more, but it was pretty good.
Beautiful to look at.
Dumb as a doorknob when it comes to options. You have at most the choice in paths of choosing which side of a boulder to walk around. Otherwise you must go A to B to C to D to E, no side-paths of note.
Linear as can be.
The fights are OK. Most of the enemies don't fight with any intelligence compared with Gears of War even. They do have different roles and use their weapons intelligently as individuals... but they don't act as a group to support each other... very easy to see with sniper weapons that chip away at the armour of the big 'uns... as their armour depletes they rush the source of the attacks (you) with no back up... not smart.
You can roll a warthog on top of yourself and not feel a thing... despite the whole vehicle resting on your neck if (and most probably you will be) the gunner.
Still I love hauling around a support weapon and the rest of the weapons have their charm. Just no options to mod them as you choose. Also the support items...having a single one really limits their use, they benefit the enemy far more (multiple beings can benefit from them, they can between them use multiple items and from the players perspective you have to fight multiple waves of multiple enemies).
I'll have to revise my opinion somewhat. I still don't like the game that much, with its overblown plot and standard gameplay, but in cooperative it's a riot.

About the options, papewaio, it wasn't like that in Halo 2. Lots of ways to skip parts of levels by taking 'secret routes' etc.

I like options... like those in CIV IV tech tree. I don't like being locked into a single route... and I liked it even less when I had to retrace my steps multiple times (I won't post which section, but those who have played will know)... and after doing it in Single Player retracing those same routes verbatim in multi.![]()
