Default so many factions, so little time... sigh....

Hi, I would like to thank and praise the thank the EB for this amazing mod first of all.

and secondly, i face quite the decision. I am a full time student and have little time to play EB and want to start a new campaign as one of the barbarian factions. However, i don't know which one to choose. I like the idea of having some pretty tough elites, so i am mainly looking at the two tribes in gaul. However, would be open to trying a different brabarian faction too.

So i pose the question which one do i pick, and why?
Which barbarian faction is the most bad*** to you?

If I were you I would pick Aedui.Anyway such threads are becoming a new fashion."What do I play"?

Aedui are my favorite barbarian faction.Of course they are identical to arverni, but in my opinion they are more challenging then arverni. Also Arvernis are damn fanatics, which I don't like.Aedui have a rightfull claim to rule all Gaul.Like I said they start with less troops so they are more challenging.Good luck with your campaingn!

Just try one. They're all enjoyable.

Personally I like the Getai and the Lusotanians the best (of the Barbarian factions).

Both get amazing elites and some decent unit variety:

Getai has a mix of Thracians and Dacians, 2 phalanx units, horse-archers, good skirmishers, and rhomphaia-elites.

Lusotania has one of the best infantry-elites in the game (the Vasci armoured infantry), a nice range of Legionnary style infantry (sword/javelin), good skirmishers, good cavalry (some of the best light and heavy cavalry in the game, possibly the best western heavy cavalry).

Both have the potential to be rich - the Getai start near the Black Sea, and can either expand into central Europe, the Northern steppes, Greece, or Asia Minor.
The Lusotanians obviously have Spain (which is full of mines), and can then either go North into Gaul, or overseas to Africa. I think one of their objectives is to colonise Ireland as well, so you'll be facing a nice mix of troop types (this is true for both factions, actually).

The Casse are a tough faction to get started as, but they have some excellent elite infantry units (indeed, much of their battle strategy hinges on their champions). If you can get them off the ground, you'll really enjoy their later infantry champions. The two things you might not like about them, however, are their cavalry options (which is to say, almost very little and very unimpressive), and their charioteer generals, who are more fragile than unfired clay.

The Sweboz also have some pretty solid elites down the road, but their generals are, like the Koinon Hellenon, infantry, and so if a battle goes ill for you, you could be losing some valuable leaders that might otherwise escape.

    Cheers.

^ The Casse are a great faction. They have very good infantry and a decent economy once you can get them going.

They are one of the only factions I have played as since I finally got EB to work.

I love the Getai. They have awesome factional troops, and even cooler regional troops.

Think of the possibilities, you are sandwiched between three Greek factions, a couple more eastern Greek factions, some nomads up north, and eventually the romans.

the regional troops are so varied, every time i fight i have different troops! also, the fact you start in between each faction means you won't be fighting rebels forever, those nasty Greeks come after you quick!

Go with the itchy dwarves, you'll never go back!

Play one and see how it goes. You may not like a faction as someone else does, it all depends on u.

Sadly, not everybody has time to spend all day playing computer games. For those of us on a more limited schedule, it's useful to be able to have other people who already have experience in various factions weigh in with their opinions, experiences, and the various pros and cons for certain factions, so that the person asking can make a better-informed decision on how to spend his precious little free time.

    Cheers.

Thumbs up Re: so many factions, so little time... sigh....

thanks landwalker, that pretty much sums up my situation. I'm gunna start my campaign as th averni, they seems to be more warlike than the aedui, and seems more prone to being tough SOB's to deal with.
maybe if the i can spare the time i'll write an aar to go with it, but i hate taking screenshots and posting them and all that good stuff, so it may be more of a novel instead of a picture book. Not to offend those who use able screen shots, i just like using my imagination.
