The original RTW started around 270BC and RTW Barbarian Invasion go's to 400AD although don't quote me on this as it's been a while since I've played this.During this period tactic's did change, but technoligy changed very little except for siege warfare.
ETW starts at 1700 where the main armament was the flintlock musket.Drilled and experienced soldiers could load and fire their muskets at a rate of three rounds per minute.
A repeating rifle is a single barreled rifle containing multiple rounds of ammunition. These rounds are loaded from a magazine by means of a manual or automatic mechanism, and the action that reloads the rifle also typically recocks the firing action. The term repeating rifle is most often applied to weapons in which the next cartridge is loaded by a manual action, as opposed to self-loading rifles, in which the force of one shot is used to load the next.
Repeating rifles were a significant advance over the preceding breech loaded single-shot rifles when used for military combat, as they allowed a much greater rate of fire.
i will not have a correction after my posts any longer by senior members that SEEM to know everything any longer!example:the spanish main infantry that were popular mercenaries for hamilcar barca in the first punic war and were famed for there ways of throwing javelins before charging accompined by large round shields that were very affective against velite spears! They quikly developed to be a prized group around the medetteranian and were the reason the romans adopted a round like shape for there sheilds the romans utilized in later years...A spanish barbarian warband that led to the reform of the roman empire!!!dec 23,1835,the seminole indians with the use of tomahawk axes only with short, wooden, bows led by cheif micanopy, alligator, and jumper ambush major francis dade's army of u.s. men in central florida and only lose 3 warriors and massacred the u.s. and dade!A force of 300 seminole warriors that massacre so many u.s. troops with such horrible tactics and weapons against the finest?!bravery and heroics that even may equal that of leonidas at thermopalae!

Why did the chicken cross the road?

So that its subjects will view it with admiration, as a chicken which has the daring and courage to boldly cross the road,
but also with fear, for whom among them has the strength to contend with such a paragon of avian virtue? In such a manner is the princely
    chicken's dominion maintained. ~Machiavelli

If eighties of the seventeenth century can be included I would suggest siege of Vienna (1683)

1700; Swedish Naval Raid on Archangelsk.

I´ve forgotten date, year and place, but an action took place between a Swedish frigate and six british ships-of-the-line and a frigate, pre 1715, which lasted for hours.

A similar British pirate raid on four Swedish destroyers in WW2, almost made Sweden join the Axis!
Survival of the fittest is a question of NOT being selected for military service! Where are the Spartans today?
