HELP WITH A NEW MONITOR

I'm hoping that someone could save me a trip to Best Buy.

I just bought a new widescreen monitor. They gave me a display model without a box or instructions. The thing's so bright that I can hardly read what I'm writing! I've got the brightness and contrast turned down to practically zero, but it hardly helps. My computer is upgraded with a lot of memory. If it's not a faulty monitor, the only thing that I can think of that might be causing this is a fairly old video card (Geforce 5300 I think). The game looks great because I can adjust the games brightness from within the game.

Any advice?? The lines at Best Buy are ridiculous. Maybe I'll wear sunglasses. I can barely see the curser! Lol.

Yeah, they turn things way up on the display models to make them look attractive. Without knowing the model of the monitor I'd recommend opening up your Nvidia control panel and running the display optimization wizard. It'll take you through step by step so you can dial back each setting to normal and end up with a viewable monitor.
