    Default Cataphract question

So....what if you manage to defeat cataphracts? Will you still get them, just later, or?

I'm curious, since I pwned both the Armenians and Parthians in my campaign right now as Arche Seleukia...never lost a battle (came CLOSE a few times, but...)

You can still lose to Bactrian cataphracts. As far as I know you have to lose though, there is no other way of getting them. Check out this thread, it should give you some more information:

Also, the Baktrian ones are monstrous even compared to the Late Parthian ones but they come in smaller groups.

IDK, but probably after the vannila marians, ie huge city in Italy. That will get you the late bodygaurds anyway, I am almost certain.

...But I just finished pwning the bactrians too...

Do the Saka have Cataphracts? If so, I might just purposely lose a battle against them so I can have them.....

There should be a date trigger for the Kat reforms IMHO if everyone with Kats die.

The Saka have Cats too. It even seems they were the very first people to use a distinguishable Cat too.

Mind you: the triggers are quite complex, so one very nice battle won't guarantee them 100%. Unit Size is NOT accounted for, so on anything like Small you simply won't get such reforms through the conditions, I am afraid.

On the other hand, if you have wipe all those treacherous wannabe independent kingdoms off the map ... wouldn't it be a tad silly to specifically arrange a battle so you can trigger Cat reforms?

    But they look so cool...

When I get my new comp and play my first seleukid campaign, I know the first thing I will do is send a general with a full stack of pantodapoi off to get themselves pwned by the Baktrians or Parthians as soon as they get their Catas.

I think 20% of your forces need to be cav, and not before turn 76, your forces and your gens body guard must suffer at least 20% casualties, their army must out number yours by at least 0.7(whatever that means?), both armies must contain at least 250 troops, etc.
And my first attempt has failed, don't know why, tis a mystery.

Well, it would be nice to have some Uberheavy Cavalry to pwn the Green Monster which has developed in Greece and Macedonia...

Also, I just plain want to see what you guys have done with them.

I'm playing Large units, actually, so I'm covered there, at least.

I'm in early 179BC ,And I sent a spy in italy to investigate if there's any Larg city there. As I expected ,many of italian settlements are already huge cities and "Polybian Reform" has been triggered for AI. But no Marian reform yet What do you think guys?

P.S : I can't build level 5 MIC !? Is this also relate to Marian reform???
