    Default The Re-Reformed Roman Army

When I checked what "the others" were doing I came across this Roman army:

The army is so far ok, that seems to have been the former garrison of Patavium. In Patavium was at this point obviously the former garrison of Taras, because it was guarded by Hoplitai Haploi and Toxotai.

But who is Matugenos Atilius Serranus? Is it a Vollorix who got by accident a Roman gens name? Or did I play this campaign for so long, without noticing, that we are now in 372 AD and the Roman army is led by Barbarians?

What ever, it was by far the strangest example of an Camillan Legion that the AI has offered me so far.

he's clearly a mercenary general or a bribed general.

The fact that he has a nomen and cognomen name indicates that he's been adopted by a Romani family member. I'm curious about this; I'd appreciate it if you'd upload your game and post a link.

I bet he was a random brigand without a ethnicity and was bribed by the Romans. Since he didn't have an ethnicity, he got one and the corresponding name change when he joined the Roman family tree.

I remember in 08x, bribed guys would get the Plebian trait, but now the Roman ethnicities change names too.

    Here it is

Matugenos has got himself some reinforcements (among them the former garrison of Patavium, what was the garrison of Taras before and is now the garrsion of Veldideno; well, that's what I call safe jobs) and is causing unrest in the Alps:

    Thanks konny,

He was adopted - and into a very fine family, too. He's got a couple of sons, Pvblivs and Lvcivs, and a grandson named Sextvs.

Ah, that one I never had myself. My adopted characters were always from the core faction by name and passport image. It is fine that it is possible to adobt characters from subjugated people, what offers a lot of roleplaying.
