    Default Getting Heavy samnites

I wanted to recruit some Samnitici Milites in my Romani campaign.

Their unit card asks a level 4 MIC (C). But what I don't get is what kind of MIC do I build?

The Auxiliarii one, or the standard one? Since Samnitici are not standard units, I've built the highest auxiliari compound I could have in that area. (3) Ign...

Do I need to change the gov of Capua from a 1 to a 4 or something like that?

Do I just need to build a standard MIC up to 4?

Samnitici Milites are recruitable in Capua, Rhegium, Apsi, and Taras from a Level 4 Factional MIC. The only units recruitable in Capua from Regional MICs are the Italic General and the Mercenary Hellenistic General, which both require a Level 5 Regional MIC.

    Cheers.

P.S. Check out the Recruitment Viewer. It's wonderful.

Edit: Of course, you can't build factional MICs at all in Taras or Rhegium until the Polybian Reforms, but that isn't the point. As an additional bit of information, the Level 4 Factional MIC also allows you to recruit Pedites Extraordinarii, the beefed up version of Samnitici Milites. These fellows can also be recruited in Roma, Ariminum, Arretium, Bononia, Segesta, and Patavium.

    Gnnn.

I've tried the recruitment viewer... That's where I've got the info about the heavy Samnites....

But where is it written if you need a level 4 MIC or a level 4 Auxilarii?

(I'm waiting to get another point in a few minutes...)

    Two or even three possibilities:

    1. Use the "Select MIC" (=> factional or regional), then "Select MIC level", et voilà.

    2. Use the "Province Data", you, that "thingie" where you can get the "trading card" infos ... Now mark detailed info, et voilà.

    3. Ah, yes! The third one is within the "trading card". Unfortunaltely I cannot remember exactly how to differentiate the info (should take a look at the "trading tard" thread again ...)

Towards the end of the book, the Moties quote an old story from Herodotus:

"Once there was a thief who was to be executed. As he was taken away he made a bargain with the king: In one year he would teach the king's favorite horse to sing hymns."
"The other prisoners watched the thief singing to the horse and laughed. 'You will not succeed,' they told him. 'No one can.' To which the thief replied, 'I have a year, and who knows what will happen in that time. The king might die. The horse might die. I might die. And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.'"

In this, the recruitment viewer can be a little tricky. After poking around at it a bit, I've concluded thus: Using the "View Province Details" function, check "Detailed Info" in the Province Details box. Your list of units should now be accompanied by two more columns, "Complex" and "Level". What I have surmised so far as been that all units with a listed complex number below 20 (usually single-digit, but sometimes in the tweens/teens) are recruited at Factional MICs (having several such complex types generally denotes differences caused by reform upgrades); all units whose complex is listed in the 20s are units recruited at Regional MICs. The "Level" column, naturally, tells you which level of the relevant MIC you need. This usually ranges from 1-5, but some factions (such as the Romani) have numbers between 11-15 as well, denoting, again, reform-based upgrades. You'll notice, for example, that while Camillan units have complex levels such as "2", the Polybian counterparts have "12". This still means a Level 2 complex, but one that has been upgraded for Polybian reform use.

    Hope that clears things up.

    Cheers.

And, let's be honest, a satisfying army really is all about its bling. A faction can have the most effective units in the game, but if I don't like the way they look, I'll go find somebody else.

    Cheers.

That's one reason I never play the Romani actually. Their looks just don't click for me...

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

Landwalker...you truly are a .org forum machine! At least a lot of these posts are useful, that little lot there will be crazy useful, I've been going nuts trying to figure out the MIC levels through the viewer, hopefully I can rely a little less on the cards now (brilliant in case Arkatreides reads this but it's another thing I've got to open! ),
    Cheers!

Hah, thanks. The recruitment viewer took a little getting used to, but I played around with it a bit and eventually figured out what was going on. Now, whenever I'm playing EB, I play with the game in a window so that alt-tab delays are essentially non-existent, and I have the recruitment viewer open at the same time--it's a godsend, really. You never have to guess at whether you should be building up factional MICs or regional MICs, and you can look at a glance to see what the best government (in terms of unit availability) is for any given province. I highly recommend it.

    Cheers.
