Thread: Mercenary Generals

    Default Mercenary Generals

I have heard that in 1.0 EB you can recruit mercenary generals, but after playing 20 years with the independent Greeks and 10 years with Carthage I have never figured out how to hire them. I have activated the script if that is part of the answer but I still can't figure it out.

You have to have a type 3 or 4 (I believe) government, and the highest level MIC.

You need a lvl 5 regional MIC which you can only build with a type 4 gouvernment.

Is MIC referring to the building that you use to recruit regional troops or is it something else?

MIC = Military Industrial Complex. Basically a name for your barracks.

And you have to build the regional MIC of level 5, which requires type 4 government.

    MIC = Military Industrial Complex.

In EB, MIC come in two variants:

    - factional (level 1 to 5) &
    - regional (level 1 to 5).

They are a combination of what in Vanilla RTW were the "barracks", "archery ranges" & "stables/circus buildings".

To get a General, you need:

    1. A government building with "Alliance" in its name. It is the one that you can build in one turn.

    2. The highest level (= 5) of a regional MIC in SUCH a province.

    - Level 1 MICs need 3 turns to build, cost (unmodified): 900 mnai
    - Level 2 MICs need 6 turns to build, cost (unmodified): 3000 mnai
    - Level 3 MICs need 9 turns to build, cost (unmodified): 7500 mnai
    - Level 4 MICs need 12 turns to build, cost (unmodified): 12000 mnai
    - Level 5 MICs need 15 turns to build, cost (unmodified): 15000 mnai

Towards the end of the book, the Moties quote an old story from Herodotus:

"Once there was a thief who was to be executed. As he was taken away he made a bargain with the king: In one year he would teach the king's favorite horse to sing hymns."
"The other prisoners watched the thief singing to the horse and laughed. 'You will not succeed,' they told him. 'No one can.' To which the thief replied, 'I have a year, and who knows what will happen in that time. The king might die. The horse might die. I might die. And perhaps the horse will learn to sing.'"
