Thread: Lest Bovi despair of his sanity!

Default Lest Bovi despair of his sanity!

Yes, though this may in law belong to the thread in which glitches are reported, for my uncertainty, and for great Bovi's health, I will tell of my insect-like adversary here!

I am playing a game as the Catuvellauni, 238 BC
(As Watchman was sure to advise me of the plural - yet, though I once said 'Cassian' in reckless disregard, I had previously thought the true plural was Cassivellauni - Cassivellaunus was the name of several Britonic celts, however this sentence is becoming to large to be bracketed, and thus I should continue),
and I have, in my strikingly early United Kingdom of Great Britannia, decided to gain land on the continent.

However, once I landed and attacked the city in the lands of the Amoricae, which is Darioritum, I decided to enact the siege on the game map.

A problem occurred which has occurred in nearly every siege battle of the Eleutheroi - I have not besieged a faction as of yet - nor have I been besieged myself.
I will play a battle, and within sieges, due to their notoriety in leaving many great numbers of both peoples dead, I conduct myself very carefully.

This means that battles are very long and carefully played to ensure I lose very little of my forces, that I may continue strongly in the campaign.

However, in three cases, the final being at Darioritum, I have played the siege, won twice, and at another lost - the game allows me my results, and then as soon as I click the 'tick', it gives me a moment of ignorance, and then crashes.

These are the only crashes, but they are the most frustrating, as I must play battles over and over - if I autoresolve them, I lose.

I have not had a field battle as of yet, so I do not know if it occurs here either.
For your further knowledge, I will say that I know there are those who have complained of this happening in battles that include an Oppidum.
All of my battles have been with a simple palisade.

I hope this is enough to allow an intelligent and helpful response, I have a computer with 512RAM, and a .. .... 9200 ATi Radeon card, in addition to 2.8GHz.
Very outdated I should think, but I can still play on huge unit settings.

However due to the slowness of the campaign map, and the 10 minute load times for battles and intermissions, if these crashes continue it will be the ruin of my pleasure in campaigns.

--------------------------------------------------------

I truly hope this can be fixed, as the United Kingdom was going to, by naval efforts, take provinces in North Africa, Gaul, Iberia, Sicily, and perhaps Judea - I was going to send colonies like spores, all across the known world and then let them grow like soft moss upon the arm of a tree!

I'm confused. You obviously have seen the link in my sig referring to my sanity and how to report a crash, yet you do not post in the tech help forum nor follow the instructions.

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

I too, am confused.
You see I stated in the beginning of my post that before complaining to you personally in the area of the forum where bugs are complained of, I was addressing the general public in order to find a common cure first!

So that I didn't have to go through the depressingly long routine that is required to formally report a bug, and so that you did not have to answer it!

Well his name is in the thread title so that's bound to get his attention

On topic: I've had simmilar crashes to yourself both in field and siege battles, however they don't seem to re-occur, I just put it down to general instability (new version, new OS, vista just complicates things )

Cheers

I had several CTDs at the end of sieges too. I resolved it this way:

1) Updated my video drivers
2) I reboot every 3 hours.

My self running on Vista and not having this issue replies: could it not simply be a matter of computer-muscle? I mean, my dual core CPU 2,6Ghz+ 2Gb RAM + ATI Radeon X1650 SE + EB is a happy marriage indeed.

Glenn, even if your intention was good, you should report on the correct place. If you do that, you have more chances to have your problem solved, because the EB team members (and specially bovi who has been making a wonderful effort in this regard) tend to follow the bug forum more closely.

I really advise you to post there a brief description of the problem, a summary of your system characteristics, and a link to a savegame just before the siege.

Glenn, I have exactly the same Pc as you, I think! (512RAM, 9200 ATi Radeon card, 2.8GHz processor)
I can only play EB since one month and a half, before that the game would crash on main menu (because of the low specs of my pc).
Because I always got those crashes and could play EB, I want in search of other mods. One of those mods was Roma Surrectum, and on their site I found this thread : http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=100384
I immediately got the idea to use these tips to get EB to work.
Especially number 2 in the list was helpful to me (it is explained some posts later how to do it exactly) and since then I can play EB, and I haven't encountered a single CTD!!!
And since playing battles uses much memory, this could be the solution to your problem.

I certainly hope it will solve your problem!

I accept your apology, Bovi, but do not let it happen again!

Medio, (If I can call you Medio), thank you for your enthusiasm, I can not see why you would not be able to play - as we have the same computer.
I can play on very high settings, but this tends to cripple the game after about two hours of play.

Dominique has given me an idea though, as often times this computer is off and unused for a week, and other times I simply leave it on for a week.
I do not have Vista, but certainly the marriage - if you can call it that - between my computer and I is rather... Well, to be blunt we only did it because it was a legal requirement at the time.

------------------------------

I have finished reading the thread you showed me Medio, I think it will help me greatly, as I know now it will probably be memory causing this.
Hence the reason why dear Bovi should ne'er become involved!

Well, I'll restart this dusty prehistorical box, follow a few instructions, and I have a premonition this will appease the Gods.

Mine s not that diferent from yours Glenn, it is a Pentium D 925 with 3.0 GHz, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, ATI xpress 1100 of 256 MB, so see, where I get the uphand in processor I loose it in vídeo ... the only crashes I experienced were related to the Oppida at Arse generated by some kind of cultural conflict so I hope that link above solved your problem! Did it?
