when do does the aztecs appear?

in the grand campaign mode, when (if there even is a time) can we go to the Americas and defeat the aztecs!

Around turn 160 you get the 'World is Round' event and can start building ocean going vessels.

If you are interested in fighting the Aztecs, I recommend that you get Kingdoms. I have found the Americas campaign to be surprisingly good - perhaps excellent. The natives have a huge variety of units which are beautifully rendered. The English and French show up and are nuts enough to attack you, if you are the Spanish. The Spanish gold and silver chevron units tear them up rather handily. If you do not like fighting every battle and assault out on the battle map instead of auto resolving, you will have a difficult time of it. I kept getting crushing defeats even at 2 to 1 odds as the attacker when auto resolving, but when I'd fight the battles out on the battle map I'd beat the natives with 1 for 10 losses or better.
