    Default Seljuks to Ottomans?

I'm playing the Turkish Grand Campaign and based on my experience in MTW and historically, in the Late Period, the Seljuks were supplanted by the Ottomans. Does this happen automatically in the game too?

EG, at some point in time all my Seljuk generals and family memebers will be making way for the Ottomans somehow? I know it sounds odd but just wanted to check...

Becasue if it does happen, then all my efforts at creating brilliant princes and sultans would be a waste!

    Hello,

In my experience, they are the Ottomans from the start onwards. There are seljuk rebels lurking around but I think for simplicity, the various groups are represented as one faction.

If you included all of the different factions in the area it would create an excellent game in itself - the struggles for power, the dirty tricks & all of the regional powerbases - maybe its a good idea for a mod along the lines of Crusades!

So, to answer your question, you are stuck with the Ottomans - but what a faction they are - brilliant troops, a chance to face the Mongols & move into Europe proper!!

Yes i think it states in the historical info that Ottomans took over Seljuks briefly before the game begins... And if you look rebel settlements around Holy Lands and Turkey, they´re mostly Seljuk Rebels there, or Arab rebels.

Nope, total war usually starts off historically correct, kinda of, has a few historical events during the campaign and then have everything else historically incorrect.

Ottomans were founded in 1299. The Seljuks were destroyed at the beginnig of 1200's. The Mongols later destroyed the Anatolian Seljuks and there was chaos until the Ottomans united the petty states and established the Ottoman state. So in the game you actually start as the Seljuks.

Thanks to everyone for the replies!

I checked again last night - at the page for the Grand Campaign intro for each faction (brief history etc), for the Turks, it mentions they start as the Seljuks. No mention of the Ottomans.

It does not happen in the Grand Campaign (to my knowledge). There is a "New Turkish Hero" (which IMHO is rather a minor event) event in the Kingdoms which donates Osman & some new units to your cause. Thank goodness there is at least an event though, better than nothing !

Confirmed, its the hero Osman who starts the Ottoman Empire after the fall of the Seljuks following the Mongol invasion. He appears about 20? turns into the game - I'm playing Byzantium (VH/VH) and have been giving the Turks a kicking from the West, while the Kingdom of Antioch attacks from the East.

Found the 4th Crusade a bit of a fizzler - no chance of them taking Constantinople!

    HAHA ! Good post.

BTW the "Mamluk Uprising" event when playing Egypt is better IMO, a full stack of FREE Mamluks.
