    Default The Dutch Language

    OMG!
I just saw some Dutch videos on YouTube, and OMG! Sometimes the language sounded soft and pretty, but most times, it sounded like slurping and slurring!
lol, I know there are a lot of native Dutch speakers on this board, does English sound like that too you? When I hear German, Chinese, Russian, and most other languages (except Finnish), they sound very natural, but Dutch just sounded like slurring to me. :P (no offense to any Dutch speakers, that is just my perception)

I am going to post a YouTube link to the Dutch version of DWD. Could a Non-Dutch speaker please tell me if it sounds the same to you?

Dutch is quite interesting. I like the language, even if it's kind of weird. I visited Holland something like 5 or 6 times, so I'm basically used to it.

Ja mata, TosaInu. You will forever be remembered.

Sounds like cross breed of German and French; although it could be that French and German are extracted from Dutch.

Seriously, it sounds weird initially but if you have some grasp of phonetics in general you get to rationalize it. I did some familiarization for my ears back when I was planning to study in den Haag.

On a related note; an old mate of mine from Aalsmeer (sp?) says that when he speaks English, it's like speaking with a hot potato in his mouth.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

Well there are many different accents, in the south it's much softer, more like the flemish. Someone from Rotterdam sounds noticably different from someone from Amsterdam or The Hague. I cannot understand what people in the north are saying unless I really try.

I think Dutch can be a pretty nice language. And I don't understand Vuk Brankovic's comment about Finnish - Finnish has to be one of the most beautiful languages in the world.

Now, Chinese and Danish are two languages that are downright ugly. No offence, but speech consisting to 90% of vowels is just unintelligible.

HEY! I like both Danish AND Chinese! :P lol
Also, sorry for the typo (lack of brains), I did not mean Finnish, but Flemish. I have never heard Finnish before, so I cannot comment. In my opinion though, Flemish and Dutch are two of the ugliest languages ever. :P
(oh no, here comes the rebuttal :P)

Dutch is often described as a horrible throatcondition instead of a language, german is beautifull though (so is dutch but it is extremily complex, can't realy learn it). German, take 'Mein liebe', it has melody. 'Entschuldigung', no offence taken! Courtious. German is pure elegance when done right.

lol, I have to agree. German does sound very beautifull. Dutch sounds WAY to throaty and phlemmy! :P (At least to someone who is not used to it)

I also like Romanian. It sound VERY noble!

Hah! Que pasa. I had to come back for reDutchification. Did someone take away the music links? I swear I listened to one in Dutch and it sounded absolutely evil. It was how German should be. I'm not too sure about a lot of those videos though, I kinda agree with Vulk.

Two things I can't stand about Holland: The color orange and the green beer. I might have to go next door for supplies.
