My god!
You weren't fighting the Horde at Hastings by any chance?
Are the generals truly vulnerable in this game then?
In Rome: Total War, the generals are half invincible until most of their guard has been annihilated!
Brilliant!

Glenn, my guess is he was fighting them at Khazar, but that's just an inference from the title. Generals can go either way, depending on the unit. Usually, they're fairly difficult to kill, at least in hand to hand combat. However, projectiles, are, in my experience, quite different. Good generals will usually be a little bit more resistant to dying, but they are still just about as mortal as their comrades are to projectiles. However, I believe that MTW is somwhat infamous at the same time for having "jedi" generals, especially with the Byzantine's and, even more specifically, the princes, whom are in units of Kataphractoi. It is not all that unusual to see some uber princes who will fight and fight, even if they are completely by themselves, against an entire army. These are most common in royalty, however, or units that are similarly designed, like Chivalric Knights and Mongol Heavy Cavalry. On the other end of the spectrum, I've had generals of weak units die almost instantly in a charge. Quite ruins the armies morale when it does happen.
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.
