    My god!
You weren't fighting the Horde at Hastings by any chance?

Are the generals truly vulnerable in this game then?
In Rome: Total War, the generals are half invincible until most of their guard has been annihilated!

    Brilliant!

    Heh, nice shot!
Glenn, my guess is he was fighting them at Khazar, but that's just an inference from the title. Generals can go either way, depending on the unit. Usually, they're fairly difficult to kill, at least in hand to hand combat. However, projectiles, are, in my experience, quite different. Good generals will usually be a little bit more resistant to dying, but they are still just about as mortal as their comrades are to projectiles. However, I believe that MTW is somwhat infamous at the same time for having "jedi" generals, especially with the Byzantine's and, even more specifically, the princes, whom are in units of Kataphractoi. It is not all that unusual to see some uber princes who will fight and fight, even if they are completely by themselves, against an entire army. These are most common in royalty, however, or units that are similarly designed, like Chivalric Knights and Mongol Heavy Cavalry. On the other end of the spectrum, I've had generals of weak units die almost instantly in a charge. Quite ruins the armies morale when it does happen.
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

Probably a big busting stone from your trebuche/catapult.

    That's a very definite kill

    Thank you Macsen Rufus.
The battle was Cumans-expert XL defending from the Horde at Lesser Khazar. I never finished this campagn, just found the replay recently. It was quite a fun (and long) battle. I used mainly mercs at first, including arquebusiers who stood to the end. My reinforcements were almost exclusively Wallachians, Steppe Heavies and Cuman Heavies, with which I mowed down the Mongol archers and chased the horse archers into killing zones. The heroic Trebuchet crew were very likely mercs, too, and withdrew from the field under their own exhausted feet after expending every shot.
Here's a sequence of shots from the replay showing the Khan getting waxed.

    Incoming!

    Still can't see the pics.

    On the heroic trebuchet crew:
    1. You've just experienced one of the bugs in MTW. A general is more likely to be hit by artilery than any other man in your entire army. Some MTW players have therefore stopped targetting general units with their siege equipement all together as it brings them a victory all to easily.

2.You really shoulnd't use trebuchets in field battles. Trebuchets can't turn and thus making them a waste of an unit slot the moment the enemy decides to approach you from an angle (which they almost always try to do).

Ah, I should have been a bit more precise - all you need is the bold part inside the image tags:

G.E.-If you save each battle after you've fought, then you can replay it and take pictures that are a little better quality. You can even zoom in to see individual fighters.
Sometimes good people must kill bad people to protect the rest of the people.

Thanks again macsen rufus. I'm starting to get the hang of it.
Dodge, I made up for the Treb's lack of rotation by funneling the Horde into firing range by outflanking the flankers. The Horde was mostly skirmishers so they consistently ran before my center. I didn't know there was such a bug as generals being vulnerable to artie. I tend to target opposing commanders with arty and projectiles as a rule.
A.M., most of those images were taken from a replay, exported to Adobe and converted to jpegs. These are my first attempts at posting pics, but I'm getting the hang of it.
