Default Question about the Spartiatai Hoplitai

Can you explain the reason for the Spartiatai Hoplitai can´t be to recruit in Sparta in the begin of the game if they can only be recruit there?
In the next release will this change?

Having one of the KH elites available from turn one might not be the best idea for gameplay reasons....

Personally I like it as it is.
Besides the gameplay reasons, historically Sparta went into decline as they didn't have the citizens to fill the ranks of their elites. Having one starting unit of them is nice as you have to preserve them until you get the ability to train them again.

    @spoofa

I feel you. I just think the KH is powerful enough for a faction which, realistically, would have likely disintegrated and began in-fighting as soon as the Makedonian threat was lifted.

Realism aside, you still have to work within the confines of the engine.

I wish there was a KH rebellion thing(-50% loyalty in everywhere not Sparta or Krete under KH control) that happened everywhere in Greece when the Macedonians lose Pella or are Eliminated.

Something like that is probably scriptable actually....would be pretty cool. KH wouldn't be considered (arguably) overpowered if one of their weaknesses was low loyalty (and it makes sense, really).

Problem is I don't know if they're still planning on adding content of that scale at this point.

Might be a good idea for EB2. Would definitely slow down the KH player.

I think they added Spartan reforms or something. Atleast they talked about something like that.

Yes, I think it was the Spartan Agoge system IIRC, although I'm not quite certain what it does (too many previews lately to remember right now)...

I've often wondered why the KH type I gov is based on the Spartan Agoge as opposed to the Athenian Democracy? Did not Chremonides, ruler of Athenai, found the league? Was a spartan proclaimed first Hegemon? Or (more likely) was there no such thing as a Hegemon of the Chremonidean league?

If that's the case, why was Sparte chosen as the capital when Athenai started the league?

I've often wondered these things myself.

It is almost impossible to accurately depict the league within the RTW confines though, whatever the EB team did the faction in game would be ahistorical. I think it's a real pity as I enjoy using the KH but I keep getting to a certain stage, defeating Makedon and the Epirotes, and thinking to myself "there would be a civil war or something about now," and then I have to use someone else. I think I'll leave my Greek campaigns for EB2 where I'm sure the team have some exciting plans for the Greek city states.

Well, all things considered you can steam roll all of Greece very quickly as the KH, they're too powerful for something that only lasted a few decades.

I recommend slicing their roster down to Hoplitai Hoploi to prevent such events.

Personally, I'd like to see them bring back the roster from the GCS.

Nothing gives that special immersive feeling like having units named 'archer' and 'hoplite' fill your ranks!!

Well perhaps... What is this Hoplitai Hoploi you speak of; do you have any sources on them that we may consider it further? Never heard of them Hoplitai Hoploi, you see. Then again I am not a historian so that doesn't count for much.

asking for historical evidence of units on this forum is strictly forbidden, units are created with the utmost creativity of our inventive minds.

I'm going to let you off easy with a warning.

The Agoge is the TypeI because the Spartans are the top tier unit the KH roster, therefore Sparta requires a TypeI.

You have to rebuild the old Spartan training system before you churn out Spartan Hoplites again. At the start of the game Sparta is in no condition to do so, and just refilling the ranks of your starting spartan generals would eat up pretty much all of those resources.
